선택적 Row Activation을 활용한 Lookup table 기반 Processing-in-Memory Architecture

Processing-in-Memory (PIM) can solve the performance bottleneck between the processor and main memory by reducing data movement. One of the PIM architectures is a LUT (Look-Up Table)-based architecture, which can replace complex computations with simple memory accesses. However, even if the LUT-based PIM can provide near-data processing capability with low hardware overhead, it can usually support only dedicated programs because of its unique architecture. The state-of-the-art architecture, called Pluto, addresses this problem by providing generalpurpose operations but requiring many row activations. This paper proposes a selective row activation for the Pluto architecture to avoid unnecessary row activations. Our experimental results demonstrate that the selective row activation technique can improve performance over the baseline Pluto architecture by 40% on average.
