The Finite Element Method has been employed to calculate the effect of particle size, matrix, and volume fractions on the stress-strain relations of α-βtitanium alloys.<br/> It was found that for a given volume fraction, the calculated stress-strain cruve was higher for a finer particle size than for a coarse particle size within the range of the strains considered, and this behavior was seen for all the different volume fraction alloys considered. The calculated stress-strain curves for three vol. pct α alloys were compared with their corresponding experimental curve, and in general, good agreement was found.

The determination of sound pressure radiated from periodic plate structures is fundamental in the estimation of noise level in aircraft fuselages or ship hull structures. As a robust approach to this problem, here a very general and comprehensive analytical model is developed for predicting the sound radiated by a vibrating plate stiffened by periodically spaced orthogonal unsymmetrical beams subjected to a sinusoidally time varying point load. The plate is assumed to be infinite in extent, and the beams are considered to exert both line force and moment reactions on it. Using this theoretical model, the sound pressure levels on axis in a semi-infinited fluid (water) bounded by the plate were calculated using three numerical tools such as the Gauss-Jordan method, the LU decomposition method and the IMSL numberial package. Especially, the variation in the sound pressure levels and their modes were investigated according to the change in frequency, bay spacing and bay distance.

A simplified method for determining the mode components of the strain energy release rate of free-edge delaminations in laminated composite is proposed. The interlaminar stresses are evaluated as an interface moment and interface shear forces that are obtained from the equilibrium equations at the interface between the adjacent layers. Deformation of an edge-delaminated laminate is calculated by using a generalized quasi-three dimensional classical laminated plate theory developed by the authors. The analysis provides closed-form expression for the three components of the strain energy release rate. Comparison of results with a finite element solution using the virtual crack closure technique shows good agreement. In the present study, laminated composite with stacking sequences of [30/-30/90]$_{s}$ were examined. The simple nature of the method makes it suitable for primary design analysis for the delaminations of laminated composite.e.

Evaluation for basis on wind pressure design and seismic design of liquid storage tanks specified in KS B 6225 and Fire Protection Law in Korea is present. The basis on wind pressure design and seismic design is modified to meet the environmental condition in Korea. Equations for calculating wind pressure and recommended wind design procedure of the tanks are presented. The basis for establishing design loads due to hydrodynamic pressure is described including seismic zone risk map in Korea, zone coefficients and the essential facilities factor. This procedure for calculating applied compressive stress on the shell base subjecting to seismic load and for estimating the allowable buckling stress is described.
