In this paper, a simulation model to analyze performance of hybrid electric vehicle is presented. Based on dynamic models of HEV powertrain, HEV simulator is developed by modular approach. Using the simulator, control strategy of the HEV are estimated. It is found that load leveling strategy gives better fuel economy and battery sac compared with those by simple power assist strategy.

In this paper, operating algorithms are investigated for a 4WD parallel hybrid electric vehicle (HEY). In the 4WD HEV used in this study, front wheels are driven by an engine and a front motor while rear wheels are driven by a separate rear motor. A CVT is adopted to provide an optimal engine operation and to make a motor run in the most efficient region. Dynamic models of a 4WD HEV powertrain are obtained and a HEV performance simulator is developed based on MATLAB SlMULINK. A driving mode which consists of starting, acceleration, constant, deceleration and engine-off is proposed. Simulations are carried out for various operating algorithms considering fuel economy and battery SOC. It is found that the fuel economy and battery SOC depend on the operating algorithm.
