This study aims to provide basic data to improve oil yields in the pyrolysis process. In order to compare the variation of the oil yields in relation to operating conditions, the experimental apparatus, a batch pyrolysis reactor, plastic flakes, and EPR plastic wastes as raw materials were used depending on the degree of contamination. As a result of pyrolysis in accordance with pre-treatment, the liquid yield of Case II, having undergone no pre-treatment, was 70.7%. For Case Ⅲ, having undergone pre-treatment, the yield was measured as 76.4%. This reveals that the yield is improved because pre-treatment removes moisture and contaminants from the plastic wastes. Measuring the yield in relation to temperature conditions, Case Ⅳ (proceeding at the lowest temperature condition) yielded 80.9% liquid and obtained the highest yield. Conversely, Case Ⅵ, which was conducted at the highest temperature, yielded 76.4% liquid, but the difference was negligible. In terms of yield, it is effective to conduct the pyrolysis under the lower temperature condition, but this presents the challenge that a greater reaction time is required. Therefore, from an economic point of view, setting the temperature within the range of approximately 360 to 400℃ is required in order to obtain more efficient oil yields in a given time.

D시 내에서 발생하는 바이오매스 및 폐플라스틱 혼합 폐기물의 SRF 전환 포텐셜 분석

This study evaluated if the selected samples meets the Solid Refuse Fuel quality criteria in Korea. Biomass and plastic wastes generated in D City were mixed in diverse ratio. When the biomass content was about 40%, the moisture content was close to the SRF criteria and was measured to be 9.8%. The ash contents were analyzed up to 4.19%, and the lower calorific values based on Steuer, Dulong Equation and Bomb Calorimeter were at least 4,851, 4,181 and 3,847 kcal/kg, respectively. As a result of the elemental analysis, sulfur and chloride content were measured up to 0.05%. Those values satisfied the SRF criteria. Also, heavy metals(Hg, Cd, Pb, As) were analyzed to be below the SRF criteria. This makes it possible to use efficiently the wood byproducts abandoned in the woods, and the physical properties of wood being weak to moisture can be supplemented with plastics. Consequently, if plastic and biomass were well mixed and made into SRF, it would overcome the problem of shortening the life span of incineration facilities due to the high temperature of plastic wastes in the incinerator. 본 연구에서는 D시 내의 바이오매스와 폐플라스틱을 적정 비율로 혼합하여 고형연료제품(SRF) 품질기준을 만족하는지 분석하기로 하였다. 수분함량의 경우 바이오매스 구성비가 약 40% 이하일 때부터 9.81% 이하로 분석되었다. 회분함량의 경우 최대 4.19%로 분석되었고, 원소분석 추정식(Steuer, Dulong) 및 발열량계에 근거한 저위발열량은 최소 4,851, 4,181 및 3,847kcal/kg로 나타났다. 원소분석 결과 황(S)과 염소(Cl)는 0.05% 이하로 측정되었고 중금속(Hg, Cd, Pb, As) 함량 또한 기준치 이하를 나타냄으로써 SRF 품질기준치를 만족하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로, 현재 적절하게 활용되지 못하고 산림에 버려져 있는 임목부산물을 효율적으로 사용할수 있을 뿐만 아니라 수분에 약한 목재의 물리적 특성을 플라스틱으로 보완할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. 또한 플라스틱 소각 시 고온으로 인한 소각로의 수명문제도 비교적 완화시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단하였다.

오늘날 신재생 에너지 공급의무화제도(RPS) 도입으로 인한 신재생에너지 의무사용으로 인하여 민간 또는 기업에 신재생에너지 보급 및 장려정책을 시행하여 국내기술로 인한 신재생에너지 자급률을 높이고자 하는 움직임이 활발하다. 하지만 폐플라스틱은 연소 시에 높은 발열량으로 인해 소각로의 수명이 크게 단축될 수 있기 때문에 운영 시 관리 측면에서 많은 문제점을 나타내고 있으며, 바이오매스의 경우 수입의존율이 높아 국산바이오매스의 자급률이 저조하고 연간 벌채되는 임목재적이 임지에 방치되어 그대로 버려지고 있는 실정이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 D시 내에서 발생하는 바이오매스와 폐플라스틱 시료를 적정 비율로 혼합하였을 때 고형연료제품(SRF) 품질기준을 만족하는지 분석하기로 하였다. 해당 시료는 다양한 구성비로 혼합하여 물리 화학적 변화를 살펴보았으며, 수분함량의 경우 바이오매스 구성비가 약 40% 이하일 때부터 9.81% 이하로 분석되었다. 회분함량의 경우 최대 4.19%로 분석되어 SRF 품질기준을 만족하는 것으로 나타났다. 저위발열량의 경우, 원소 분석 후 Steuer 및 Dulong 식을 이용한 추정값은 최소 4,851, 4,181 kcal/kg로 분석되었고 발열량계에 근거한 실측값은 최소 3,847 kcal/kg로 나타났으며, 해당 값 모두 수입/제조 SRF의 품질기준치인 3,650/3,500 kcal/kg를 만족시켰다. 원소분석의 경우, 황(S)과 염소(Cl)는 모두 0.05% 이하로 측정되어 SRF 품질 기준치인 0.6%와 20% 이하를 모두 충족하였으며 중금속(Hg, Cd, Pb, As) 함량은 각각 품질기준치인 1.0, 5.0, 150, 13.0 mg/kg 이하로 분석되었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로, 바이오매스와 폐플라스틱 시료를 적절한 구성비(약 4:6)로 혼합하였을 시 SRF 품질기준을 모두 충족하는 것으로 확인되었다. 이는 현재 적절하게 활용되지 못하고 산림에 버려져 있는 임목부산물을 효율적으로 사용할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 수분에 약한 목재의 물리적 특성을 플라스틱으로 보완할 수 있을 것으로 사료되며, 플라스틱 소각 시 고온으로 인한 소각로의 수명 문제도 비교적 완화시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단하였다. 사사: 이 논문은 환경부의 “지식기반 환경서비스(폐자원에너지화) 전문인력양성사업” 및 “폐자원에너지화 기술개발사업”에서 지원받았으며 이에 감사드립니다.

In this study, the qualities of waste plastics pyrolysis oil before and after pre-treatment were compared. In addition, char byproducts and the odor impacts of non-condensable gases were evaluated. In the analysis of domestic pyrolysis oil quality criteria, the Case II oil, which did not undergo the pre-treatment process, was slightly above the criteria in moisture and chlorine content, this was improved in Case III oil, which was pre-treated. Pre-treatment is inevitable before the pyrolysis is processed to improve the quality of the oil. GC-MS analysis confirmed that the oil has characteristics of kerosene and diesel oil. In terms of the recycling possibility of char, the calorific value of char was slightly lower than the criteria of 4,500 kcal/kg, but the heavy metal content satisfied the criteria. Therefore, it should be taken into account that the char has the potential to be recycled in terms of energy recovery when mixed with other fuels. In the combustion of the pyrolysis oil, PM-2.5 exceeded the criteria. Therefore, it is necessary to install air pollution prevention facilities. In the analysis of odor in non-condensable gas, NH3, H2S, and CH3SH exceeded the emission limit. Therefore, a facility to reduce these odors should be installed before the non-condensable gas is discharged into the atmosphere.

In this study, we analyzed the characteristics of municipal waste generated in D Metropolitan City, such as apparent density and physical components. We performed proximate analysis, elemental analysis, and calorific value analysis to improve the SRF conversion efficiency of waste. Representative samples were collected from 11 discrete points in a residential area, a commercial area, a business area, and a landfill site. The average apparent density of all samples was 173.1 kg/m<sup>3</sup>, the moisture content of the three components was 24.0%, the combustible content was 65.3%, and the ash content was 10.7%. In addition, combustible waste accounted for 85.85% of the total waste and non-combustible waste accounted for 14.15% of the total waste. The elemental analysis was carried out on six properties: carbon (C), oxygen (O), hydrogen (H), nitrogen (N), sulfur (S), and chloride (Cl). The ratios of these elements in total waste were highest for carbon (C), hydrogen (H), and oxygen (O). The average total waste lower calorific value was 2,988.36 kcal/kg, and the difference between the higher calorific value and the lower calorific value was approximately 500 kcal/kg (±50).
