Powdery mildew diseases previously unrecorded in Korea were noticed on four species of ornamental trees. Field observations on each disease were described and the causal fungi were identified. Powdery mildew of Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa was found to occur mildly, especially on plants growing in shade. The causal fungus was identified as Microsphaera nomurae U. Braun. Cornus Florida was found to be infected with Microsphaera pulchra Cooke & Peck and supposed to be epidemic in nursery. Powdery mildew of Malus baccata occurred on young leaves and herbaceous stems in nursery. The causal fungus was classified as Podosphaera leucotricha (Ellis & Everh.) Salmon. Powdery mildew of Ulmus macrocarpa was found to occur in autumn and severe on young shoots. Uncinula kenjiana Homma was identified as the causal fungus.

Real-time Automatic Vehicle Identification System(AVIS) has been developed for the use of Intelligent Vehicle Highway System(IVHS), AVIS consists of 3 major elements: invisible barcode system, optical scanner, and DSP board. The invisible barcode system reflects only the specific infrared light of wavelength 1500 nm. The developed optical scanner can read the invisible barcode system attached at the passenger-side front window of nonstop vehicles passing through tollgates. The barcode system contains vehicle information coded by I2/5 barcode symbology. The data scanned by the optical scanner may be erroneous due to environmental and implemental noises. Some redundant data are added for detecting and correcting errors due to these noises. The error correction rate 40 % is attained for redundancy rate 40 %, by data rearrangement and interleaving algorithm devised using I2/5 interleaving characteristics.
