Nowadays, the demand for energy saving and green emission of construction machinery, especially hydraulic excavators, has been highly increased. Aa a result, hybrid system, which are promoted and successfully applied to automobile industry, is recently introduced to hydraulic excavators. The aim of this paper is to propose a new energy saving electro-hydraulic circuit design for the generation of potential energy of hybrid excavators. In this system, a power storage component, electric battery, is combined with a hybrid electro-hydarulic actuator using an electric motor, and an electric generator as energy conversion component. In addition, a control strategy, which is used to control the electric excavator to follow commands given by a driver and to optimize the enerty saving process of the generator and battery, is also proposed in this paper. The effectiveness of the energy saving electric excavator is clearly proved by a simulation and a series of experiments on a test rig including a bucket cylinder.
Center Position Control for Steel Machine Using Electro-Hydraulic Actuator

This paper presents an application of electro-hydraulic actuator (EHA) to a steel rolling machine (SRM) in order to control the center position of the roller which affects directly to the working performance. The EHA control system is developed from a conventional servo hydraulic actuator (SHA) which is currently used to control the roller center of the SRM in POSCO Corp. Based on the EHA specifications and control requirements, the EHA circuit and its components are designed. In addition, the ability of using EHA for center position control (CPC) is verified by force control performance on an electro-hydraulic test machine (EHTM) in which the reference is the working data obtained from the SHA. Experimental result proves that the EHA has strong potential to be applied for CPC of the SRM.
