4차 산업혁명 시대 현대적 공예의 의미와 가치 고찰을 위한 기술 융합 연구 - 3D 프린팅 사례를 중심으로

4차 산업혁명은 인류가 겪었던 1·2·3차 산업혁명보다 더 빠르고, 다양한 범위에서, 예상치 못한 변화를 일으킬 것으로 예측되었다. 하지만 우려와 달리 4차 산업혁명의 핵심기술인 로봇이나 3D 프린팅 같은 초지능 기술로 인해 인간을 완벽하게 대체할 수 있는 직업은 5%에 불과하며, 아직까지도 많은 영역에서 인간의 창의력은 발휘할 것으로 전망된다. 본 연구는 인류의 창의력이 발휘된 시작부터 역사를 이어온 공예 분야가 4차 산업혁명의 흐름 속에서 변화 또는 유지하게 될 가치는 무엇인지 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 이에 지금까지 거쳐 온 산업혁명과 공예의 흐름을 파악하여 기술과 공예의 상관관계를 발견하는 데 주목하였으며, 전통적으로 지녀온 공예의 가치와 성질을 살펴보았다. 현대에 와서 공예는 새로운 기술, 특히 3D 프린팅 관련 기술과 접목하면서 기존 공예의 성질에서 나타나지 않은 성질을 띄게 되었으며, 국·내외 공예 협업 사례와 국내 공예전문가 사례를 통해 이를 확인할 수 있었다. 이상의 이론적 배경을 이해하는 문헌연구와 실제 사례연구를 통해 결과적으로 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 공예는 산업혁명을 주도하는 핵심 기술에 의해 그 의미와 가치가 변화하였다. 둘째, 3D 프린팅과 현대 공예의 접목은 기존 공예의 속성을 바꾸는 계기로 작용하였다. 마지막으로 4차 산업혁명을 맞으며 공예 분야에서는 새로운 기술과 소재에 대한 이해 및 대중성과 시장성에 대한 검토를 토대로 가장 본질적인 기초 조형에 대한 연구와 교육이 필요하다. 본 연구를 통해 창의성을 바탕으로 한 발상은 시대가 변화해도 바뀌지 않는 공예의 본질임을 인지하고 다양한 분야와의 융합 사례를 늘려나간다면, 공예의 보편화와 저변 확대에 기여할 것으로 기대된다. The Fourth Industrial Revolution was predicted to cause unexpected changes in a much faster and more diverse range than the first, second and third industrial revolutions that mankind had experienced. However, contrary to concerns, the new revolution would replace human beings in only 5% of professions with super intelligence technologies such as robots and 3D printing, which are key technologies of the fourth industrial revolution. It is expected that human creativity is still needed in many areas. The purpose of this study is to examine how the value of arts and crafts, which have been with mankind since the start of the history, would change or maintain in the flow of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It is important to pay attention to the relationship between technology and craft by analyzing the industrial revolution and the flow of crafts that have been with mankind so far and to examine the value and characteristics of traditional crafts. In recent years, the modern crafts have become different from the existing crafts by adopting new technologies, especially 3D printing related technologies. It can be confirmed through the domestic and international crafts cooperation examples and domestic crafts expert examples. The following conclusions are drawn from literature studies and actual case studies to understand the above theoretical background. First, the meaning and value of craft have changed with the core technology that led the industrial revolution. Second, the combination of 3D printing and contemporary craft has changed the characteristics of existing crafts. Lastly, in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it is necessary to study and educate the most essential basic formative arts based on the understanding of new technologies and materials and the examination of popularity and marketability. Through this study, it is expected that the idea based on creativity is the essence of craft that doesn’t change. If it increases the cases of convergence with various fields, it will contribute to the universalization and popularity of craft.

본 연구는 현대 사회 대중문화 발달로 생겨난 취미공예에 대한 개념 정립의 필요성을 고찰하는 선행연구이다. 특히 4차 산업혁명을 맞이하며 한국적 공예환경의 특성을 반영한 용어의 정립과 방향성을 제안하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구의 방법으로는 기 발간된 문헌 자료에 대한 이론적 배경 연구와 ‘공예백서’를 통해 현 산업을 반영한 현황 조사를 진행하였다. 문헌 연구 결과, 공예와 취미공예의 개념 및 흐름을 살펴보았고, 취미공예의 범주를 1차적으로 도출하였으며 이를 바탕으로 ‘공예’를 제목에 포함하는 출판물 456건과 ‘취미+공예’를 포함한 웹 문서 370건에서 대중적 관점으로 쓰인 키워드를 추출하였다. 또한 취미공예의 산업적, 문화적 측면에서 대중과의 거리감을 우선적으로 살펴보기 위하여 각 분야별 공예 전문가 5인과 인터뷰를 진행하고 키워드를 추출 · 정리하였다. 대중적 관점으로 추출된 취미공예 관련 키워드는 대체로 상품의 제작과 소비의 차원이 아닌 공예 교육과 교육을 통한 특정 목적을 수행하는 정서적 활동 측면에서 그 가치를 나타내고 있었다. 반면 전문가의 경우 공예 활동 자체에 대한 전문가적 인식이 반영된 키워드가 추출되었다. 연구 결과 취미공예에 대한 타 분야와의 융합적 연구와 대중의 눈높이를 고려한 공예 교육의 중요성을 도출할 수 있었다. 일반 대중에게 취미공예는 교육이나 취미 활동으로서 공감을 형성하는 중요한 매개체로 작용하고 있으며, 이는 공예의 저변화와 대중화에 기여하는 중요한 항목이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구가 취미공예를 의미하는 적절한 용어 개발 및 개념 정립의 필요성을 제안하는 선행연구로서, 추후 다양한 매체를 통해 확장된 연구로 이어지는 밑거름이 되기를 기대한다. This study is a precedent study to examine the necessity to establish the concept of hobby craft which is one of the hobby activities created by the development of modern society popular culture. In particular, the propose of this study lies in the establishment and proposal of the direction of terminology reflecting the characteristic of craft environment in Korea which has met the fourth industrial revolution. Researches on the documented literature were performed for the establishment of the concept of hobby craft and current status survey was performed to identify the current status of the industry. Through the literature research, the flow of concept of ‘craft’ and ‘hobby craft’ was examined, and the category of hobby craft was derived preliminarily. Based on this, popular key words were selected from 456 publications which have ‘craft’ in the title and 370 web documents which have ‘hobby + craft’. In addition, in order to identify the sense of distance from the public in terms of industrial and cultural aspects of hobby craft, five craft experts in each field were interviewed and the key words were extracted and sorted. Hobby craft related key words extracted from the popular perspectives showed their values not from the dimension of production or consumption but from the dimension of emotional activities which perform specific purpose through craft education and general education. On the other hand, key words extracted from the interviews with experts reflected the perception of experts on the craft activities. From the study results, it was induced that the craft education considering the eye level of the public and the integrated research with other fields were very important. For the general public, hobby craft is an important medium to form empathy as education or a hobby activity, which is an important item contributing to base expansion and popularization of craft. It is hoped that this study will become the basis for further research through various media as a precedent study suggesting the necessity of proper term development and concept formation of hobby craft.
