One of the major excitation sources is an engine. The mounts supporting an engine are important isolating mechanism. The first step of design of engine mount system is to determine the location and orientation of the mounts. This paper presents the optimized location and orientationg of mounts system to minimize the transmitted force/mount from an engine to car frame.

This paper shows an optimal design methodology for a fluid engine mount by the Pareto artificial life algorithm for solving multi-objective optimization problems. The design has been commonly modified by trial and error or optimized by an optimization method which can handle a single objective function. The optimal design of a fluid engine mount commonly requires reducing the transmissibility at two frequencies which are the desired resonant frequency and the notch frequency. But the single solution is an element of the Pareto optimal solution set. This paper provides a decision maker or a designer with the Pareto front and the optimal solution set for a fluid engine mount. Furthermore, the relation between the Pareto optimal solution set and the solution of the linearly combined single-objective optimization problem for the fluid mount has been studied.

Vertical pumps are structurally weak in terms of vibration because of installed heavy motor on top of the pumps in form of cantilever. So high vibration on top of the pumps can occur with low vibration in the bottom. These vibration problems experienced very frequently. Majority of studies have been related to the unbalance of rotating parts or structural resonance. In this paper, we introduce an unusual case, vibration variation caused by VPF(Vane Passing Frequency) according to water level.

This paper presents numerical analysis result of rotor-bearing system of a multi-stage high pressure pump. Especially resonance possibility, stability and damping factor are estimated for a selected commercial multi-stage high pressure pump. The result shows that it is not easy to avoid resonance of rotor-bearing system against main excitation forces which are residual unbalance force and pressure pulsation. This makes damping effect be more important.

This paper presents a hybrid method to compute the solutions of an optimization Problem. The present hybrid algorithm is the synthesis of an artificial life algorithm and the random tabu search method. The artificial life algorithm has the most important feature called emergence. The emergence is the result of dynamic interaction among the individuals consisting of the system and is not found in an individual. The conventional artificial life algorithm for optimization is a stochastic searching algorithm using the feature of artificial life. Emergent colonies appear at the optimum locations in an artificial ecology. And the locations are the optimum solutions. We combined the feature of random-tabu search method with the conventional algorithm. The feature of random-tabu search method is to divide any given region into sub-regions. The enhanced artificial life algorithm (EALA) not only converge faster than the conventional artificial life algorithm, but also gives a more accurate solution. In addition, this algorithm can find all global optimum solutions. The enhanced artificial life algorithm is applied to the optimum design of high-speed, short journal bearings and its usefulness is verified through an optimization problem.
