L. andersoni and L. mediadiposalis preferred the rapids with high water velocity but L. obesus abounded in the rapids with low water velocity or in the pools. In the Kum-river where L. mediadiposalis and L. obesus inhabit together, the former occupied the higher or middle parts while the latter occupied the middle part. In the contact zones they showed mosaic distribution pattern of the microhabitat by occupying the rapids and pools respectively. Length-frequencies in these populations indicate that total length of 40-60 mm fish group is a yearling, 70-100 mm is two-year-old, longer than 110 mm is regarded as being over three-year-old. These fishes feeding mainly on aquatic inscts started spawning at the age of two, and the spawning period was from early May to late June when the water temperature reaches 20-25℃

Liobagrus obesus n. sp. from the K n-river, Korea, is described as a new species. This species is characterized by larger head width, larger body depth, I, 7 pectoral rays, 3-5 feeble teeth at the spine of pectoral fins, 64-67 caudal rays, and equal jaws. The present species is distributed only in the Ungch`o^˘n-river and middle part of Ku^˘m -river in Korea, and prefers pool regions than rapids.

In this study, the experimental and numerical investigations of the ignition of methane-air mixtures by a electrically heated wire were carried out. In order to define the initial condition and make the analysis simple, the following control unit was developed; which heats the wire to the setting temperature in a very short time, and maintains the wire temperature constant until ignition. Experiments with the feedback control were performed using nickel and platinum wires in normal gravity and microgravity. From experimental results, ignition temperatures in normal gravity are higher than those in microgravity, however, the dependences of ignition temperature on equivalence ratio are not affected by natural convection. Numerical calculations, including catalytic reaction for platinum, were performed to analyze the experimental results in microgravity. Numerical results show that reactants near platinum wire are consumed by catalytic reaction, therefore, the higher temperature is needed to ignite the mixture with platinum wire.

Catalytic combustion type sensor was fabricated for alcohol detection, and its characteristics were tested. When the resistance of Pt coil for pellistor is 2.0 ohm, suggestible input power to bridge circuit was about 300 mW for methanol detection, and in the range from 350 mW to 400 mW for ethanol. Pellistors were prepared by means of impregnating Pt or Pd on the γ-alumina bead for sensing element, and transition metals such as Co₃O₄, Fe₂O₃ for compensating element.

NO_x sensors using tungsten oxide films as a base material were prepared and their electrical and sensing characteristics have been investigated. The WO₃ thick films doped with SnO₂ or TiO₂ showed higher sensitivity and better sorption characteristics to NOx gas than the pure WO₃ films material in air at operating temperature of 400 ℃. By addition of noble catalysts, such as Ru or Au, to the TiO₂-WO₃ thick films, their sensitivity, recovery and selectivity to NO_x gas were found to be more enhanced.
