레고 마인드스톰 NXT를 활용한 기초설계 교과목에서의 효과적인 공학설계과제 선정방안 연구

This paper deals with the selection method of effective engineering design problem based on LEGO Mindstorm NXT for basic design education. By YouTube case study of various LEGO-based engineering designs for olympic sports, performance criteria have been developed including programming complexity, structural complexity, sensor/actuator complexity and variety of game operation. Programming complexity includes range of programming code length and possible program variety. Structural complexity includes variety of structural elements such as length, shape, weight, and volume to overcome design restrictions. Sensor/actuator complexity includes variety of sensor used and number of possible actuator assemblies. Variety of game operation includes game complexity and required creativity to make LEGO robots. Based on these performance criteria, four representative sports were selected as the candidates for effective engineering design problem. Finally, feasibility and attributes of each candidate were verified by real implementation examples.

The mortality rate of car-pedestrian accidents is quite high compared to the frequency of accident. Recently, governments and insurance companies tend to establish and implement new safety standards for pedestrian protection such as EURO-NCAP and K-NCAP. The performance for the pedestrian protection has been gradually improved, but it is still insufficient. Therefore, various studies for the pedestrian protection are being carried out. The car-pedestrian accident is simulated in order to study to the upper legform test of the EURO-NCAP protocol. A pedestrian dummy model is employed and the results are discussed.

The current statistics on car-to-pedestrian accidents show a very high mortality rate compared to the frequency of occurrence. To improve the pedestrian protection performance of vehicles, governments and insurance companies tend to establish and implement new safety standards for pedestrian protection. The South Korean government added a “pedestrian safety” entry from the year 2007. The pedestrian protection performance of vehicles has gradually improved since then but is still insufficient. Therefore, various studies on pedestrian protection should be carried out. In this study, a car-to-pedestrian accident was simulated with THUMS(Total Human Model for Safety) to conduct the upper-leg form test of the Euro-NCAP(European New Car Assessment Program) protocol. The pedestrian human model and the TRL(Transport Research Laboratory) upper-leg form model were employed, and the results are presented and discussed in this paper.
