The purpose of this paper is to introduce performance assessment into geography. In Korea, evaluation has been affected by the outside factors and product-oriented assessment using objective question items. The reaction against this longtime customs makes it to seek the alternative for providing the reliable test on student's achievement. We used the various items suggested in the performance assessment to evaluate the validity and the output was analyzed. The results of the analysis are as in the followings : First, most teachers prefer the conventional paper-pencil tests, but agree with the need of the performance assessment. Second, because of the lack of time and difficulty to apply, difficulty to look for materials, only 21.2% of students answered in the affirmative. Third, students showed a negative responses to the new perform assessment. Therefore, teachers are highly required to research and try to provide various evaluation method to attain educational goals successfully.
