Vol.41 No.1

The purpose of this experimental study was to examine the effects of evaluation feedback, status of aggression target and aggressor`s anonymity on displaced aggression. The evaluation feedback was manipulated by providing a fake neutral or negative feedback on participants` own essay regardless of the excellence of their writings. The status of aggression target was manipulated by giving fictitious name and status (professor or student) of the writer of the essay which was supposed to be evaluated by participants. Anonymity was manipulated by having participants to write down their name on the evaluation material or having participants not to give any information about them. The ANOVA results of the study(N=149) revealed the significant main effects of the evaluation feedback and social status of the target. That is, participants who had the negative feedback showed significantly higher displaced aggression than participants who had the neutral feedback. Also, participants showed significantly higher displaced aggression on the target who had low social status than high social status. Two significant 2-way interaction effect of the evaluation feedback × social status of the target and the evaluation feedback × anonymity were found. That is, participants showed higher displaced aggression on the low status target than the high status target only when they received negative evaluation feedback. Also, participants showed higher displaced aggression when they considered the situation as anonymous than the situation was not anonymous and this was true only when they received negative evaluation feedback. Limitations of the study and implications for the future study were discussed.

Vol.42 No.1

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of group cohesion, perception of co-worker effort and work condition on group performance using an experiment. In this experiment, group cohesion was manipulated by pairing friends or strangers as a group and also giving them information on their attitude similarity and opportunity to discuss the agreed-upon issues or dispute on a disagreed issue to persuade the other person depending on the group cohesion condition. Perception of co-worker effort manipulation was manipulated by swapping cards to indicate how hard the colleagues would perform for the following task performance. The work condition manipulation was manipulated by letting them know how the results would be evaluated(ie., coactively vs. collectively). The results of the analysis are as follows. The three-way interaction effect of group cohesion, perception of co-worker effort and work condition was significant. When participants perceived their co-worker would work very hard, the performance of the collective condition was significantly lower than that of the coaction condition regardless of the level of group cohesion. When participants perceived their coworker or coactor would not work hard., the performance of the collective condition was significantly higher than that of the coaction condition. However, this performance difference was not resulted in the high group cohesion condition. Comparison between this results and the results of Karau and Williams(1997), the implications and limitations of the study were discussed.

탐지 단서와 탐지자 기분에 따른 거짓말 탐지

        김경란 ( Kim¸ Gyeong-ran ),석동헌 ( Seok¸ Dong-heon ) 전북대학교 사회과학연구소 2020 지역과 세계 Vol.44 No.3

The purpose of this study was to examine how the lie detection rate varies depending on the deception cues and detector’s mood. 67 college students were randomly assigned to 4 conditions of 2 (deception cues: audiovisual cue/auditory cue) × 2 (detector’s mood: excited/calm) between subject design. The deception cues were manipulated by giving participants an audiovisual material or auditory material. In the excited mood condition, participants were asked to write an essay about the most excited moment in their life while listening to the exciting music. In the calm mood condition, participants were asked to write an essay about the calmest moment in their life while listening to the calm music. The result revealed that auditory cues were superior to audiovisual cues in detecting lies. Also, Participants in the calm mood condition achieved higher accuracy rate in detecting deceptive messages than those in the excited mood condition regardless of their deception cues. Finally, participants in the calm mood condition showed higher detection rates when they used auditory cues than audiovisual cues, but participants in the excited mood condition showed no difference in detection rates between audiovisual and auditory cues. Implications and limitations of the study were presented in the discussion.
