The powertrain of the waterjet system of a special-purpose vehicle makes use of the cardan shaft, which is composed of universal joints and shafts. These universal joints, composed of spiders and needle roller bearings, have to be designed with consideration for the bending and compressive stresses of the spiders and needle roller bearings, and the rating lives of the bearings. The bending and compressive stresses of the spider and bearing of a universal joint have been studied by many researchers. However, to design a universal joint effectively, overall consideration of the different specifications of needle roller bearings is necessary. In this study, the bending stresses of spiders and compressive stresses of needle roller bearings are calculated to design universal joints for powertrain cardan shafts with different roller diameters of bearing. Furthermore, the rating lives of the needle roller bearings are predicted using the calculated basic dynamic load ratings of the bearings. As a result, roller diameters less than φ2.5 mm are found suitable through an analysis of the bending stress of the spider. All compressive stresses between spider and bearing, regardless of roller diameter, satisfy the requirements. Moreover, roller diameters of more than φ2 mm are found suitable for the required rating life.

In general, a brake system of axle for heavy duty machine as a wheel excavator makes use of wet-type multiple disk brakes. These disk bakes are very important parts of heavy duty machine because they are advanced in durability and braking power, and can be designed compactly. Thus, we designed and made wet-type multiple disk brakes of axle for the wheel excavator to be localization of these imported all. In this study, wet multiple disk brakes were made a comparative test with the 3 types materials of friction disk by the SAE No.2 dynamometer. The friction characteristics were measured and analyzed to decide a suitable material as wear depth of friction disk and dynamic and static friction coefficient on temperature of oil and applied pressure.

Wind energy is considered as the most competitive energy source in terms of power generation cost and efficiency. The power train of the pitch drive for a wind turbine uses a 3-stage complex planetary gear system in being developed locally. A gear train of the pitch drive consists of an electric or hydraulic motor and a planetary decelerator, which optimizes the pitch angle of the blade for wind generators in response to the change in wind speed. However, it is prone to many problems, such as excessive repair costs in case of failure. Complex planetary gears are very important parts of a pitch drive system because of strength problem. When gears are designed for the power train of a pitch drive, it is necessary to analyze the fatigue strength of gears. While calculating the specifications of the complex planetary gears along with the bending and compressive stresses of the gears, it is necessary to analyze the fatigue strength of gears to obtain an optimal design of the complex planetary gears in terms of cost and reliability. In this study, the specifications of planetary gears are calculated using a self-developed gear design program. The actual gear bending and compressive stresses of the planetary gear system were analyzed using the Lewes and Hertz equation. Additionally, the calculated specifications of the complex planetary gears were verified by evaluating the results from the Stress - No. of cycles curves of gears.

The steel wheels are still used in the passenger cars because of their low cost of production although the aluminum wheels have many advantages in their performance and appearance. Imbalance and/or misalignment of the steel wheels excite the knuckles of the vehicle, which causes the steering wheel vibration. Both the constant velocity driving test and the run-up test are fulfilled in this study to analysis the causes and path of the steering wheel vibration generated from the steel wheels. And this study shows that the steering wheel vibration is affected by the fastening torque of the wheel mounting bolts between the steel wheel and the suspension disk.
