치커리(Cichorium intybus L.)의 우량 종근 생산을 위한 휴면 특성을 구명하기 위해 시기별로 생육 특성과 ABA 함량을 조사하였다. 5℃ 이하의 저온누적시간은 10월 7일부터 12월 3일 조사까지는 서서히 증가 는 경향을 나타내었으나 이후 증가폭이 커졌다. 종근 무게는 10월 말부터 12월 3일 조사까지 큰 폭으로 증가하였으나, 이후부터 12월 17일 조사까지 거의 증가하지 않았다. 종근 내 ABA 함량은 10월 7일부터 12월 3일 조사까지 아주 낮은 수준으로 변화가 거의 없었으나, 이후 12월 10일 조사에서 급격히 증가하였고 2주 후인 12월 24일 조사에서 급격히 감소하였다. 따라서 5℃ 이하의 저온누적시간이 큰 폭으로 증가하고 종근 무게가 변화하지 않는 시기, 그리고 ABA 함량이 급격히 증가하는 시기를 고려하면, 치커리는 12월 3일 이후부터 대략 2주간 내재 휴면을 하고 이를 타파하기 위한 저온요구시간은 대략 240시간 정도로 생각된다. To investigated the dormancy of chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) for production of high quality rootstocks, growth characteristics and abscisic acid (ABA) contents was conducted. The accumulation hours below 5℃ in field was increased slowly from October 7 to December 3, but there after increased largely. The rootstock weights was increased from the end of October to December 3, there after was not changed to December 3. ABA contents within the rootstock was not changed from October 7 to December 3, and there was suddenly increased for two weeks to December 24. As results of the sudden changed date of accumulation hours below 5℃, stopped date and period of rootstock growth, and sudden changed period of ABA contents, chicory has internal dormancy for two weeks from December 3 and low temperature requirement hours for the dormancy breaking is about 240.

Characteristics of flower bud differentiation in highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) cultivars were investigated. The blueberry buds were burst from late March to mid April in Iksan area. The buds of ‘Sharpblue’, blueberry in Southern type, swelled on March 23, while those of ‘Jersey’ and ‘Sunrise’ did on April 13. Their blooming in Iksan area started from mid April to late May. ‘Sharpblue’ and ‘Jersey’ were the earliest (April 16) and the latest (April 25) blooming cultivars, respectively. Shoot resting dates of the cultivars, as estimated by the apical bud wilting and tip blackening, ranged from early May to mid July. Since the axillary buds enlarged and took the form of terminal buds, they were regarded as pseudoterminal buds. The flower buds were not changed morphologically until late August, but subsequently became larger and developed numerous florets. Thus, the flower bud differentiation was thought to occur late August. Flower buds were formed at the second or third node from the apical bud. Number of flower buds on short length shoot and shoot of 10~30 cm length was from 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3, respectively. Number of florets per flower bud was difference as that was from 6.8 to 11.0 and ‘Bluecrop’ and ‘Dixi’ were very large in coefficients of variation.

This study was carried out to compare sensory evaluation with instrumental analysis for the determining intensity of green color in leaf. In chrysanthemum, SPAD value was high in order 137A < 147A < 139A of RHS color chart, and RHS color chart was highly related to SPAD value (r = 0.644<SUP>**</SUP>). In watermelon, RHS color chart was not related to SPAD value, Hunter value, and chlorophyll contents, respectively, but intensity of leaf color was highly related to RHS color chart (r = 0.853<SUP>**</SUP>) and SPAD value (r = 0.381<SUP>**</SUP>). In conclusions, leaf color in chrysanthemum should be applied to RHS color chart and SPAD value, but in watermelon should be applied to the sensory evaluation and RHS color chart.
