Car collision analysis using a computer simulation is a method that can dramatically reduce the time and cost compared to Sled test. But this analysis is able to make an interpretative problem different from reality by a few of unconsidered factors. In commonly seat foam need quasi-static stress-strain curve and density and initial Youngs modulus. However, car collision event is dynamic situation and very short time events. Because of these reasons the material properties need to be improved. So we designed a test device of impact experiment of car seat foam considering air flow movement within the foam and pre-strain. This device enables control of pre-strain using electro-magnetic impactor, determination of air flow movement within the foam using punching plate and flow control sensor. It is differ on condition of maximum impact load on the foam, a kind of cover of foam, quantity of pre-strain so as to figure out air flow movement by seat foam used back and cushion. This device is observed that maximum load by voltage of electro-magnetic impactor seems repetitiveness of replays on the experiment and that air flow movement from seat foam is belched symmetrically by holes` position of punching plate. In the end, we improved foam material by porous material in commercial program, Pam-crash. We confirmed the complementary effects in the sample unit.

Pedestrian Protection test method was first developed by the EEVC Working Group 10 and then further refined by EEVC Working Group 17. The test procedures currently used in Euro NCAP pedestrian evaluations are based on the test method of EEVC Working Group 17. Pedestrian protection test have been conducted by EuroCANP and there’s been any amount of research into pedestrian protection. But Car manufactures have tended to put less work into considering the upper legform to bonnet leading edge test than for the lower legform or head form test. The purpose of this study is to understand about principle of sum force and three moment calculation in upper legform and to suggest the absorbing intrusion of vehicle for Pedestrian protection using the CAE simulation and Test.

The repair cost in a low speed crash could be reduced by establishing energy absorbing element such as a crash box. The rear structure of an auto-body should be designed to reduce the repair cost in a low speed crash accident. In this paper, 6 crash box designs are evaluated to maximize energy efficiency with 2 types of rear bumper beams an optimized round beam pattern showed the best performance and an open section bumper beam absorbed more energy than a closed section bumper beam did because of more room for a crash box.

The center pillar lower joint between center pillar and side sill normally is connected by spot welds. The joint should have enough stiffness to resist a side impact. When the spot welds are detached, the deformation mode shows totally different collapse mode so that the spot weld failure modeling is important to correlate physical test. In this study, the sheet metal failures around the nugget are modeled using strain-based criterion. The sheet metal around nugget are modeled to have regular mesh. Lap shear coupon tests were conducted to define strain failure criteria. This modeling technique has been correlated with side impact test.

This study is about the development of impact absorber system for Lower Leg Pedestrian impact in Euro NCAP European New Car Assessment Programme(Euro NCAP) announced new protocol of Pedestrian protection Version 5.0 including the The 66mm inside bumper corner spacing requirement has been removed and the impact points can be positioned out of the impact zone where there are structures outboard of the bumper corners. There may be a lack of foam padding over the bumper beam or little support go to the lower part of the legform in the area of the bumper corners. This study is about the optimized energy absorber systems by Plastic insert EPP foam in the bumper corners.

Currently one of the main purposes of FE analysis of a vehicle crash is to simulate the high speed vehicle collision such as KNCAP in order to improve the passengers safety against injuries by analyzing the vehicle structure deformation and the kinematic of passenger. However the accuracy of CAE for low speed vehicle collision is also required to develop SDM algorithm. Because it decides deployment or no deployment condition of constraints such as airbag and belt pretensioner based on deceleration from high speed crash as well as called “low speed crash”, a level of delta velocity and a series of airbag misuse (or abuse) tests. So this paper suggests the factors to improve accuracy in simulating wild boar and rail road crossing impact and introduces object rating tool finally evaluates the amount of correlation quantitatively by using CORA (Correlating and Analysis) software.

Regal requirements such as FMVSS 202a and GTR No. 7 regulate the neck injury during low speed rear collision. While this accident head restraints play key role to reduce the injury induced by the well-known cervical whiplash response, constraining the relative rotation between thoracic T1 and head COG. So in this paper each design parameter of wireframe of passive type head restraint is proposed to minimize the relative rotation standpoint of dynamic assessment of GTR No.7 applying Function Analysis Tool of DFSS which shows functions and features of each component by categorizing its functions.

In IIHS side impact test, Injury measures obtained from instrumented 5th percentile female SID-IIs dummies placed in the driver. The 37 measures are grouped into three body regions: head and neck, torso, and pelvis and left leg. Three injury parameters are calculated for the head and neck, three parameters for each thoracic and abdominal rib in the torso, three parameters for the pelvis, and four parameters for the left leg. This study shows improvement of IIHS rating focused on leg injury. The simulation model is generated using MADYMO with PSM(Prescribed Structural Motion).

The insurance rating has been differentiated in grades according to cost of repair for damaged vehicles and has been an important consideration point for customers when buying a new vehicle. The RCAR (Research Council for Automobile Repairs) has evaluated low speed damageability and reparability of cars. Vehicle manufacturers have tried to reduce the repair cost by designing vehicles with the intent to minimize damage sustained in low speed crash. Repair costs can be reduced by repairable component. Repairable components prevent serious damage of the expensive component such as CRFM and repair the component instead of replacing This paper demonstrates an idea for a repairable CRFM component design to achieve a reduction in repair cost and improve damageability.
