This work reports the tunneling effects of the lateral field emitters. Tunneling effect is applicable to the VMFS(vacuum magnetic field sensors). VMFS uses the fact that the trajectory of the emitted electrons are curved by the magnetic field due to Lorenta force. Polysilicon was used as field emitters and anode materials. Thickness of the emitter and the anode were 2 ㎛, respectively. PSG(phospho-silicate-glass) was used as a sacrificial layer and it was etched by HF at a releasing step. Cantilevers were doped with POCl₃(l0^(20) cm^(-3)). 2㎛-thick cantilevers were fabricated onto PSG(2㎛-thick). Sublimation drying method was used at releasing step to avoid stiction. Then, device was vacuum sealed. Device was fixed to a sodalime-glass #1 with silver paste and it was wire bonded. Glass #1 has a predefined hole and a sputtered silicon-film at backside. The front-side of the device was sealed with sodalime-glass #2 using the glass frit. After getter insertion via the hole, backside of the glass #1 was bonded electrostatically with the sodalime-glass #3 at 10^(-6) tort. After sealing, getter was activated. Sealing was successful to operate the tunneling device. The packaged VMFS showed very small reduced emission current compared with the chamber test prior to sealing. The emission currents were changed when the magnetic field was induced. The sensitivity of the device was about 3 %/T at about 1 Tesla magnetic field.

The response to drug treatment in asthma is a complex trait and is markedly variable even in patients with apparently similar clinical features. Pharmacogenomics is a study of variations of human genome characteristics as related to drug response. A traditional candidate-gene approach and genome-wide association studies have provided an increasing list of genes and variants that was associated with asthma medications. However, as phenotypic variations arises from a network of complex interactions among genetic and environmental factors, rather than individual genes, a multidisciplinary, system-level approach is required in order to understand the interrelationships among these factors. Systems biology that studies organisms as integrated and interacting networks of genes, proteins and biochemical reactions can contribute to this. It is likely that the combination of network modeling, functional validation, and integrative -Omics will be needed to move asthma pharmacogenomics closer to clinical relevance.(Allergy Asthma Respir Dis 2014;2:326-331)

Background: The prevalence of atopy and atopy-related disease has been known to increase during the past decade. Objective : This study was desinged to evaluate the changes of atopy prevalence among asthmatic patients and the causative allergens. Method : A total of 698 asthmatic patients visiting Seoul National University Hospital in 1983, 1990 and 1997 was recruited. Skin prick test with common inhalant allergens was carried out and interpreted as positive when the mean wheal size formed by allergen was larger than 3 mm. Atopy was defined when skin reaction to one or more allegens was positive. Result. The prevalence of atopy among asthmatic patients was 54% in 1983, 48.8% in 1990 and 58% in 1997, respectively. The prevalence of atopy decreased as the age of patients in- creased. Recently, old asthmatic patients ( >55 years) showed a higher tendency to visit the tertiary referral hospital. When the data were analyzed according to age, the prevalence of atopy significantly increased among asthmatic patients aged 15-35 years, in whom the prevalence was 60.4% in 1988 and 81.3% in 1997 (p< 0.05). The positive rate of skin test to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, cat fur, mugwort, ragweed, and grass pollen were significantly higher in 1997 than in 1983 (p < 0.05). Conclusion : The prevalence of atopy among asthmatic patients aged 15-85 years showed significant increase in 1997 compared to 1983. The changes of skin response to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, cat fur, mugwort, ragweed, and grass pollen contributed to the increase of atopy.

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis is an imrnunologically mediated disease resulted from repeated exposure to sensitizing agents such as organic dusts or chemicals. We report two cases of familial hypersensitivity pneumonitis diagnosed by typical symptoms, physical findings, chest x-ray abnormalities, and histologic findings with a brief review of the literature. A 60-year-old woman and her 62-year-old husband successively presented with dry cough and exertional dyspnea. These symptoms developed about 20 days after the womon had started feeding cows with stored hay. The same symptoms also developed in her husband when he had handled the stored hay instead of her because of her illness. We confirmed hypersensitivity pneumonitis with bronchoalveolar lavage fluid analysis and open and transbronchial lung biopsies. (J Asthma Allergy Clin Immunol 20: 760-766, 2QOO)

A micro-vacuum sensor was fabricated for the measurement of the vacuum level in micro-space. The fact that the field emission current was dependent on the environmental vacuum level was employed as an operating principle. 1`he fabricated lateral-type field emitter triode with a cathode, a gate and a anode separated by using the surface micromachining process showed the emission current variation in the range of 1.20∼2.42 μA for the vacuum range of 10^(-5)∼10^(-8) Torr.
