Stethoscope which is a clinical instrument to hear sounds from human body is composed of diaphragm, bell, stop cock connector, connecting tubes, and ear pieces. The shape of the stethoscope chestpiece is well designed to detect sounds from human heart and lung. The diaphragm is used to hear significant lung sounds in the frequency range of 200Hz to 500Hz under the optimal human auditory threshold of 1000Hz. The bell chest piece is used to detect heart sounds in the range of 20Hz to 1000Hz. In this paper, using the finite element method, a stethoscope is modelled, and mode shapes and sound pressure are analysed to investigate the acoustic characteristics of the stethoscope.
