In recent years, urban regeneration is focused on smart and pedestrian oriented development utilizing various mobility technology. The characteristics of walkways needs to reflect such development orientations. This research is the first step to find an adequate slope for ramp replacing stairs and shared by pedestrians, personal mobilities and powered wheelchairs. It aims to check if ramps on a recommended degree of angle by general guidelines are more preferred than stairs and find out what make difference of such preferences. Two surveys were conducted at 9° and 9.6° ramps coexisted with stairs at sequential and parallel location. The study on the survey result found that the general evaluation of 9° ramp was better than 9.6° ramp but 9° ramp was not preferred than stairs while 9.6° ramps was preferred. The difference of preferences was related to characteristics of stairs. The stair with shorter tread and riser next to 9° ramp was evaluated much better than stairs next to 9.6° ramp. Therefore the research concludes that 10.0° which many guidelines recommend for the maximum slop of a ramp was not adequate for a ramp to replace stairs as a preferred means of vertical circulation. In addition the research found that the preference was sensitive to moving direction and gender especially in regards to comfort of stairs and safety of ramp. Most pedestrians chose a means of vertical circulation based on its comfort but pedestrian’s evaluation of safety was most different based on moving direction.

The pipes in the outdoor unit of an air conditioner are designed to reduce the vibration effect of the compressor. Three-dimensional structure of the pipe could provide various design choices and the resultant vibration characteristics of the outdoor units. A design program has been developed for an eligible parametric study of pipe design and automatic vibration analysis using commercial software, I-DEAS, and its macro. Optimal design of pipe configuration has been performed using the commercial software, iSIGHT. The optimized design shows 70 percents improvement in the vibration characteristics of the outdoor unit of an air conditioner.

The rise in digital technology-based architectural research is challenging conventional methods of visual perception and image-based analysis of architectural space. This study examines the distinction between Virtual Reality (VR) and photo/video evaluation methods through users’ opinion of architectural design. Based on the case study of Kim Chung-Up Museum in Anyang, a questionnaire survey was conducted with 52 participants to evaluate 5 façade elements of building shape, façade color, façade material, entrance type and window type.

Although an increasing number of multi-tenant Medical Office Building(MOB) tend to determine street scene of urban center in Busan, there has been scant information of that phenomenon. Therefore, this study explores the architectural characteristics of multi-tenant MOB in terms of locational decision-making and space configuration in Busan. As a result of the research, multi-tenant MOB agglomerates in the vicinity of boulevard in order to induce a number of patients. Indeed, most clinics that can maintain their profitability though their location are located in high rise multi-tenant MOB. Lastly, a lower part of the multi-tenant MOB consists of people enticing facilities such as pharmacy, café and cell phone shop while clinics based on locational decision making accounts for a higher part of the building.
