The surface of injection and pressure-molded sheets of poly(ethylene-covinylacetate)(EVA) foams were treated in low temperature plasma to improve adhesion in joints with a water-based polyurethane adhesives. The modifications produced on the rubber surface by plasma treatment were assessed using contact angle measurement, Fourier-transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance spectroscopy(FTIR), scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Adhesion was obtained from T-peel tests of treated EVA foams/polyurethane adhesive joints. Several experimental variables were considered, such as radio frequency power, treating time, type of gas, and gas flow. The treatment in the low temperature plasma produced a noticeable decrease in contact angle. The peel strength of EVA foams treated with plasma was increased with plasma treating time, and gas flow.

Urea/formaldehytde(UF) and melamine/formaldehyde(MF) microcapsules containing perfume and 2,4,4-trichlororo-2-hycroxydiphenyl ether(DP) were prepared by the in-냐셔 polymerization using urea and formaldehyde. The mean diameters of UF and MF microcapsules are about 2-8㎛. Effects of dispersing agent on the release behavior of microcapsules were investigated. The release behavior of microcapsules was independent on concentration of dispersing agent. The amount of Lemon perfume exracted with mthanol from UF microcapsules was about 10mg and hexane is 5mg. The amount of extra from MF microcapsule was less than that of UF microcapsule. The mount of Lemon perfume released from F microcapsule was increased with increasing temperature from 70℃ to 150℃. In the case of MF microcapsule, the amount of Lemon perfume was less than 5% at 100℃. Release behavior of MF microcapsule at 150℃ was simlar to UF.

Radio frequency(r.f.) plasma polymerization of acrylic acid has been used to modify the surface properties of poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) film. The modifications produced on the PET film surface by plasma graft with acrylic acid was assessed using contact angle measurement, NMR spectroscopy, infrared-attenuated total reflection spectroscopy(FTIR-ATR). FTIR-ATR spectra of the treated film and transmission spectra of plasma polymer films onNaCl windows indicated that as power increased the CO/H ratio increased. The treament in plasma graft produced a noticeable decrease in contact angle, which can be mainly ascribed to the creation of COOH moieties on the PET film. Graft yield of acrylic acid on PET film by plasma polymerization is about 1wt%.

Several experimental variables were considered, such as radio frequency power, treating time, type of gas, gas flow, and distance between electrode and sample. The modificated surface by plasma treatment were characterized using contact angle meter, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), universal testing machine(UTM). Adhesion was tested by T-peel tests of treated EVA foams/polyurethane adhesive joints. The treatment in the low temperature plasma produced a noticeable decrease in contact angle. The peel strength of EVA foams treated with plasma was increased with plasma treating time, and gas flow.
