(연구배경 및 목적)제1차 세계대전이후 사회, 문화적 변화에 따라 독일 슈트르가르트시는 신개념 주거단지를 실험적으로 추진하였다. 이 단지는 미스 반 데어로에(Mies van der Rohe)를 비롯하여 17명의 건축가들과 함께 협업하였다. 독일은 근대건축에 있어서 가장 뚜렷한 형태로 발전한 국가이며 새로운 건축을 모색하고자 하였다. 산업혁명 이후 모더니즘은 급속한 기술의 발달을 통하여 건축물들 속에서 발생되고 표현되는데 이러한 시대적 상황에 맞게 건축분야에서 새로운 것들을 받아들여야 했다. 이러한 시대적 상황에 맞춰 1927년에 근대 건축가들을 통해 신개념 주거단지이자 바이젠호프만 주거단지가 제작되었다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 바이젠호프만 주거단지를 이론적 고찰을 통해 분석하고, 단지 내 건축물의 특성을 연구하는데 기여한다. (연구방법)본 연구에서는 바이젠호프만 주거단지에 건축되어진 모든 건축을 대상으로 기존문헌과 관련 선행연구를 바탕으로 하여 먼저 바이젠호프만 주거단지가 나타나게 된 배경과 개요, 단지의 제작에 참여한 건축가들과 건축가들의 사조에 대하여 알아본다. 그리고 모더니즘의 배경 및 성격과 특징에 대해 고찰해본다. 또한 1928년에 결성된 C.I.A.M의 배경과 1차에서부터 10차까지 회의 내용을 알아본다. 모더니즘의 분야, 성격, 분류를 통해 바이젠호프만 주거단지의 건축물들을 분석하여 그에 적용된 특성을 도출하고 위의 분석들을 종합하여 바이젠호프만 주거단지의 모더니즘적 특성과 연관되어 역사적이며 구축적이고 실험적인 접근방법으로 나타내었으며, 각 접근방법에 따라 각 3가지 특성 키워드를 도출하여 표로 분석하였다. (결과)그 결과, 앞서 도출된 특성 키워드들이 바이젠호프만 주거단지내의 건축물들의 사례에서 일관적으로 적용되는 것을 볼 수 있다. 역사적으로 대량생산과 산업화, 기계화를 통해 개인주거가 아닌 주거단지가 형성되었고, 새로운 재료의 접목을 통해 구조를 만드는 부분에서 구축적임을 알 수 있고, 실내에서 거실이나 주방 또는 방을 반복적으로 다니는 거주자의 동선을 중심으로 조금 더 편안하고 실용적으로 이루어졌음을 알 수 있다. 이 바이젠호프만 주거단지가 그 당시의 시대에서 표현되었던 것은 도전적이며 실험적이라는 것을 나타낸다. (결론)본 연구에서는 바이젠호프만 주거단지의 배경과 모더니즘의 분야, 성격을 통해 바이젠호프만 주거단지에 속해있는 모든 건축물을 사례로 하여 모더니즘적 특성과 관련이 있는지 살펴보았다. 역사적, 구축적, 실험적인 3가지의 접근방법으로 나타난 9가지의 특성을 분석하여 나타난 결과를 그래프를 통해 보면 바이젠호프만 주거단지가 오늘날의 주거단지들에 토대가 되며, 근대건축의 모더니즘적 특성이 대부분 공통적으로 반영되어 나타나 있음을 알 수 있었다. (Background and purpose)After the World War Ⅰ, the city of Stuttgart in Germany aimed to build a new experimental concept on residential complex and collaborate with 17 architects, including Mis van der Rohe, to forward social and cultural changes throughout the world. At the time, Germany was the most developed nation in the field of modern architecture and sought to establish a new foundation on architecture. Modernism after the Industrial Revolution was developed through architectural works, along with the rapid development of technology; the architectural field had to accommodate newly developed materials following the global trend. To meet such global trend in architectural field, modern architects built the Weissenhof Housing Estate in 1927; this project employed an advanced concept in architectural field at the time. This study examines and analyzes the characteristics of Weissenhof Housing Estate. (Methods)This study examined the architects who worked on the Weissenhof Housing Estate project, and then looked into the architectural trends reflected in every building in the estate by consulting previous studies. This study also analyzed the background of xxx (CIAM), which was founded in 1928, and reviewed the contents of the organization`s first to tenth conferences. It determined the background and characteristics of modernism, and then derive keywords on modernistic characteristics of the estate. Using pre-determined characteristics of buildings, it classified the buildings into three categories, namely, historical, constructive, and experimental factors. (Results)This study found that pre-determined keywords were applied consistently to the Weissenhof Housing Estate. Through mass production and industrialization, no individualized residential area but a residential complex was built historically. The buildings can be classified as constructive, as they were constructed based on new concepts. They were also practical because they were designed based on human flow from the living room and to the kitchen. It can also be classified as experimental and innovative because their characteristics are reflected in people`s residential estate in those periods. (Conclusions)According to the analysis on Weissenhof Housing Estate based on the nine characteristics that were derived from the three methods, the estate has served its role as a foundation of today`s residential area, and reflects modernistic characteristics common in the design of modern architects.
