Fatigue life and crack retardation behavior were examined experimentally using CT specimens of aluminum alloy 5083. Crack retardation life and fatigue life were a wide difference. between 0.8 and 0.6 in proportion to ratio of load reduction. The wheeler model retardation parameter was used successfully to predict crack growth behavior. By using a crack propagation rule, prediction of fatigue life can be evaluated quantitatively.

Fracture behaviors of pipe material for pressure vessel is very important for the integrity of nuclear power plant However, there are not basic non-destructive data according to tensile test of pipe material for pressure vessel. Acoustic emission(AE) has been widely used in various field, because of its extreme sensitivity, dynamic detection ability and location of growing defects. In this study, we investigated a relationship failure mode and AE signals by tensile test As results of test, we could divide four range of failure modes of elastic range, yield range, plastic range before <SUB>u</SUB>, plastic range after σ<SUB>u</SUB> And failure behaviors of elastic range, yield range, plastic range before σ<SUB>u</SUB>, plastic range after σ<SUB>u</SUB> could be evaluated in tensile test by AE counts, accumulation counts and time frequency analysis. It is expected to be basic data that can protect a risk according to tensile test of pipe material for pressure vessel, as a real time test of AE.
