Ball ramp in LSD system plays a role to support clutch engaging and disengaging at short duration. The applied torsional load is transferred abruptly and also receiving high axial force during clutch engaging. The precious gear geometry and high strength of ramp is needed. In this study, the ‘hybrid ball ramp’ is developed to satisfied those requirements. It consists of ANSI 8620 steel plates and a powdered gear with CD welding. The idea of this combination pursues the cost efficiency with high precision gear and sufficient strength of ramp during clutch engaging. The design is verified throughout the push-off and torsional test for welding strength and additionally the performance test and durability test at system level.
