        사회과 수업에서의 예술(arts) 활용에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to address the importance of and methods of arts and aesthetics in social studies education. Social studies materials deliver their messages mainly through textbooks, so they have limited what students are able to learn. By adding arts and aesthetic materials, social studies educators can help students understand the world better and contribute to educational equity. The traditional form of assessment taps only a small portion of human aptitude, thus do an injustice to those who can have done very well, if other options are provided. Utilizing the arts both in instruction and assessment, social studies classes can help those who are more able in arts but poor in conventional types of assessment. A major difficulty lies in assessment procedures in incommensurable outcomes. So, cautions are needed for the criteria for evaluating academic achievements in arts-social studies integrated instructions.

        온라인 공론장에서의 의제설정을 활용한 사회과 쟁점중심 수업모형 개발

        The purpose of the present study is to compare a face-to-face discussion method and a mixed discussion method which incorporates agenda setting in an on-line public sphere and face to face discussions for learning controversial issues in high school social studies. The experimental group decided the controversial issues online for themselves and had discussion sessions later in class. The comparison group had only in-class discussions which dealt with the issues selected by the teacher. The dependent variables are attitudes toward controversial issues and critical thinking ability. The sample for this study consists of 248 high school seniors, 126 in the experimental group and 122 comparison group. The result are as follows. First, the mixed method of this study was more effective in improving participant inclination of the students. Second, the model employed in this study was more effective in improving critical thinking ability of the students. Third, the results imply that differences of gender and school performance should be considered in issue-centered instructional models.

        결혼이주자를 위한 온라인 교육 프로그램 개발 연구

        The purpose of this study is to develop an on-line education program for immigrant spouses through investigating their educational needs. For this purpose, we surveyed immigrant spouses listed in 171 Multicultural Family Support Centers over the country regarding their educational environments, internet environments, and their needs for on-line education. We found out that immigrant spouses prefer on-line education programs to on-site programs for diverse reasons. highly want to receive mid-to-high level Korean language education and participating in programs for career development, computer, Korean culture and laws. Based on this result, we establish an on-line programs composed of three areas: language and culture; society and institution; career and life. This program could act as a bridge program linked with Air & Correspondence High School programs. This on-line bridge program is expected to provide immigrant spouses with credentials and richer educational environments.

        중등 교사들의 다문화적 인식에 대한 연구 -수도권 국어,사회과 교사를 중심으로-

        Korea`s population is becoming diverse, and this trend is expected to continue. Teachers must be prepared to teach students from diverse cultural backgrounds. The purpose of this is to explore the multicultural awareness of social studies and Korean teachers in secondary schools in the Metropolitan area of Korea. A total of 452 teachers(94 Korean teachers and 358 social studies teachers) completed the survey that is composed of three parts of questions: teacher multicultural attitudes, multicultural understanding/misconceptions, and the perspective of purposes of multicultural education. The result are as follows. First, teachers had strong sensitivity toward issues of cultural pluralism in the classroom. Second, they knew the basic concepts of multicultural education well. Third, they agreed with the goals of caring-centered multicultural education most strongly. Students need to be a good citizen in a multicultural society. To educate students to be an multicultural citizen, teachers must have high level of multicultural sensitivity. There is strong need to contain multicultural education in a pre/in-service teacher education program.

        An Analysis of the Social Studies Teacher Education Curriculum in Korea

        The objective of the present study is to analyze the characteristics of the curricula for social studies teacher education in Korea and to seek directions for improvement of the curricula. The present study compared and analyzed the curricula of sixteen colleges of education through their course catalogues. Their curricula consist of courses in liberal arts, major studies, and ``student teaching.`` Major courses provide prospective social studies teachers with courses in ``social science content knowledge`` and ``social studies education`` (teaching of social studies). The results of this study are as follows. First, major courses in social studies education departments focus on ``social science content`` knowledge, such as: political science, economics, sociology, anthropology, and law. Thus, more courses in ``social studies education`` should be developed and offered. Second, among the courses in content knowledge, courses in Society & Culture prevail and courses in law are offered less. Third, the duration of the student teaching practicums is too short. The period should be extended in order to enhance the student teachers` competencies as future teachers.

        한국 청소년의 시민의식 조사 연구

        Democratic system and civil consciousness are the main components of a democratic society. In particular, civil consciousness is a critical factor to operate the system authentically. Youths` civil consciousness is a very important indicator which reflects the level of democracy in our society and foretells the future. This research conducted a survey of 1,541 Korean youths on their civil consciousness. It revealed some positive results on such factors as sense of participation, tolerance, political efficacy, law-abiding attitude, and volunteering, but the level of consciousness in them is mediocre. It means that the Korean youths should have more chances to develop their civil consciousness. In order to do that, the school and local society should give them more authentic participatory experiences. Also, the survey revealed that youths` leadership experiences and academic performances influence their level of civil consciousness. The school should provide all youths genuine participatory experiences regardless of their level of academic performances.

        사회과 글로벌 시티즌십 교육의 동향과 과제

        Global citizenship education has become a main theme in Korean social studies very recently. In the present study, we describe historical changes, current trends, and challenges of global citizenship education in Korean social studies education reflected in the national curricula staring the 1946 syllabus. We used the conceptual framework of Merryfield(1998) to analyze the national curricula. Global citizenship education started as ‘understanding of global issues’. After the cold war Korean social studies curriculum started to include diverse cultures and multiple perspectives. It also tried to help students acquire knowledges, skills and responsibility required for making choices and taking action as a citizen in an interdependent world. In recent years, social studies education for global citizenship has focused on interdependence and interconnectedness, cross-cultural competence, and prejudice reduction.

      • 다문화 교사 교육과정의 실태와 개선방안

        교사의 다문화적 역량은 다문화교육의 성공여부를 결정짓는 핵심요인이며, 교사 양성기관은 다문화교육을 실시할 수 있는 교사의 자질 육성을 위해 노력해야 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 국내 교사양성 기관의 2010년 교과과정을 분석하여 다문화 교사교육의 실태를 파악하고 개선 방안을 제안하는 것이다. 유아교육, 초등교육, 중등교육으로 나누어 전국 60개 4년제 대학의 유아교육과 교육과정, 전국 13개 초등교사 양성기관의 교육과정, 그리고 전국 42개 사범대학의 교과과정을 대상으로 다문화교육 관련 강좌의 개설 여부 및 내용을 조사하였다. 그 결과 전국 사범대학 중 다문화강좌를 개설한 대학은 총 17개교인 것으로 나타나 2009년도 8개교에 비하여 양적 증가가 주목할 만하다. 초등교사 양성 기관은 정부 지원의 영향으로 2009년도와 마찬가지로 13개 교육기관 모두 강좌를 개설하고 있으며, 강좌 개설 주체가 다문화교육센터 및 연구소 등으로 다각화되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 초, 중등 교사 양성기관의 대다수 강좌는 교양 강좌로 운영되고 있으며, 이해 위주의 개론적 강좌의 성격을 지 니고 있다. 유아교육과의 경우 다문화 강좌가 개설된 곳은 단 4곳에 그쳐 개설률이 매우 저조하다. 이상과 같은 현황을 볼 때 교사의 다문화적 역량 향상을 위한 강좌가 양적으로 확대되어야 할 뿐만 아니라 그 내용의 심화와 전문화가 요청된다. 또한 학교 현장과의 연계성을 강화하여 현장 실습 경험을 폭넓게 제공해야 한다. The objective of this study is to analyze implementations of multicultural teacher education in Korea and seek directions for improvement. Curricula of pre-service education for multicultural education are analyzed. The results of this study are as follows. First, curriculum offerings for multicultural education in pre-school teacher education are minimal. Only 4 out of 60 institutions offer courses in that field. Second, programs in elementary teacher education offer more courses than pre-school teacher education programs. However, programs should be more comprehensive and diverse. Third, 17 out of 42 secondary teacher education institutions offer courses in multicultural education. There are few opportunities to have field experiences. More courses in multicultural education should be in teacher education programs. Also, the courses should include more field work experiences and subject-related topics.
