        The product service enables companies to provide their products and services with least negative environment effects, and to keep and reuse valuable resources for their next products and services. To support the integrated and collaborative development of the product service, this paper proposed architecture of the extended Product Data Management (PDM) that can integrate design of products and planning of manufacturing process and customer services, based on the consistent and comprehensive PDM databases. The architecture enables design, manufacturing, and service engineers to express their products and services efficiently, with sharing the consistent product data, engineering changes, and both economical and environmental evaluations on their design alternatives. The architecture was implemented with a prototype PDM system, and validated through an example product. The result shows that the PDM architecture can support the integrated design for products, manufacturing process, and customer services, and provide a collaborative product service development environment for the design, manufacturing and service engineers.

        BOM과 디지털 트윈 통합 데이터베이스 기반 스마트 커넥티드 제품의 설계변경에 대한 연구

        This study shows how closed-loop environment supported by integrated bill of material (BOM) and digital twin databases enables engineers share operational data of their products to enhance decision makings for their engineering changes. To test feasibility of the concept, this study proposes an architecture of integrated BOM and digital twin databases for supporting engineering changes of smart, connected products. In the architecture, digital twin databases allow BOM databases to share digital twin objects with their record of sensor data through their product configuration identifiers. This study implemented the architecture with a prototype product data and digital twin management systems. Using the implemented system, this study has developed smart, connected mannequins and managed their product usage data in a digital twin database. The implementation and management experience shows that the operational data of digital twins can support engineering changes with integrated and consistent online machine generated product usage data to allow efficient procedures of engineering changes and verifications of their results.

        개인제조를 위한 부품 카탈로그 시스템 개발

        This paper proposed a part catalog system for personal manufacturing that emerges recently based on personal fabrication machines, social media and a set of accessible engineering software. To support deficiency of personal manufacturing, the lack of human resources, it aims to integrate design and customer support from the view of product life cycle management. Extending the previous study on integration of design and manufacturing to customer support, it provides a parts catalog system that consists of a parts catalog editor and a viewer. The editor itself is an extended product data management (PDM) system that manages product data for design and customer support in an unified user environment. The viewer allows easy access of customers or customer support agents to the parts catalog through Web environment. The editor and viewer also provide social media that can directly connect personal manufacturers and customers to support efficiency of customer support in personal manufacturing environment. The proposed system was implemented as a prototype parts catalog system based on an existing research and education purpose PDM system. This paper also applied industrial example data to the implemented system to verify the feasibility of the proposed parts catalog system.

        개인제조를 위한 통합 BOM 관리 시스템 개발

        This paper proposes a bill of material (BOM) model for personal manufacturing. The personal manufacturing refers a commercial production system managed by a person or a small number of people who use social technologies, new personal fabrication machines and a set of software for design and manufacturing applications. The proposed BOM model consists of functional requirement for personal manufacturing and corresponding class schema and operations. The paper implemented the proposed model as a BOM management system based on a research and educational purpose product data management system. It also applied an industrial example data to the implemented BOM management system with a personal manufacturing scenario to illustrate feasibility of the proposed BOM model. This paper also included discussion of the result of the application and further research on BOM models for personal manufacturing.

        CAD와 BOM 통합 데이터베이스 기반 로봇 조립 계획 시스템 아키텍처 개발

        This study proposes a system architecture based on integrated Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Bill of Material (BOM) databases for a robot assembly planning system. The architecture consists of CAD, Product Data Management (PDM) and robot assembly planning applications based on CAD, BOM and robot databases. It manages shape and product structure data from 3D CAD files as data objects in CAD and BOM databases, and stores general robot assembly planning data from robot teaching results as robot path objects in the robot database. Robot engineers create robot assembly plans using a process BOM that incorporates data from the CAD, BOM and robot databases. Throughout the generation of robot assembly plans, the architecture uses the shape data of participating parts in CAD database to automatically calculate the positions of robot end-effectors. This paper describes the implementation of applications and databases in the architecture using FreeCAD, MariaDB and Apache Tomcat Web application server. It also outlines cases of experimental robot assembly planning using the implemented planning systems and robot arms at laboratory level.

        3D 프린팅 서비스 기반 개인제조를 지원하는 확장 제품자료관리 시스템

        The low price around 1000 USD makes consumer 3D printers as a new additive manufacturing platform for the personal manufacturing where consumers can make and sell their own products. To allow the consumers to design and manufacture their products, not only economic 3D printers but also supporting information systems for their design and manufacturing are essential. This study suggests an extended product data management (PDM) system that can support both the design and manufacturing of personal products with consumer 3D printing services. This extended PDM system helps consumer designers use advanced PDM technologies for their design and connected 3D printing services with Internet of Things (IoT) technology for realization of their products. As a result, the proposed system supports the consumer designers a seamless integrated product development and manufacturing environment supported by PDM and consumer 3D printing services.

        비대면 환경에서 제품자료관리 시스템 기반 협동제품개발 실습과제 운영 사례

        This study attempted non-face-to-face collaborative product development practice that can respond to the spread of COVID-19 by expanding existing product data management system-based product development practice. For the complete non-face-to-face product development practice, it utilized prototype development using a 3D paper model, an online class management system and social media for classes and meetings. As a result of applying the non-face-to-face method, product developments of 26 practice teams have been completed without any failures. Therefore, through this study, the author can confirm that it is possible to provide the complete non-face-to-face collaborative product development practice based on product data management systems.

        소셜미디어와 PDM 시스템을 활용한 협업적 제품자료관리 교육

        This study proposes an approach to Product Data Management (PDM) education for collaborative product data management, which can support collaborative product development process. This approach introduces social media and a PDM system into a framework for PDM education supported by consistent product development process and product data model. It has been applied to two PDM classes and the result shows that the social media in PDM education can support not only experiences of the collaborative product data management but also interactive and informal communications among instructors and participants using integrated social media with product data during courses.

        Pre-qualification 관리 시스템을 위한 데이터베이스 모델링

        Acting an important risk management tool for main contractors, pre-qualification has served a key marketing tool for subcontractors in various industries. Current industrial environment has required the time intensive pre-qualification ability to small and medium-size subcontractors as a matter of competitive business. In order to support the subcontractors, this paper proposes a database model for pre-qualification management system (PQMS) that automates the pre-qualification process by using information technologies. The modeling process consists of specifications for its requirements, functional modules, and a database model for the PQMS.

        제품수준 탄소배출이력 계산을 위한 제품자료모델 확장

        The product-level carbon footprint (PCF) is a comprehensive and widely accepted metric for sustainable product development. However, since a full PCF study in general is time and cost intensive, it is not feasible for the product development team to synchronize the activity to the main product development process. In addition, the current dedicated life cycle assessment (LCA) tools for calculating PCF, separated from the main product data management systems, have limitations to provide timely PCF information for design decision makings and collaborations between design and environment engineers. This paper examines the possibility of the extension of the current product data model that can support the PCF calculation with PDM (Product Data Management) databases. The product data model can represent not only the content of products but also context or system information of the products. The product data model can be implemented as a PDM database that can satisfy the needs for handy and timely PCF calculations from the consistent product data for dynamic design decision makings and engineering collaborations.
