This paper presents the fabrication of inchworm motor for high precision actuator system of large displacement and high force. The inchworm motor consist of a extending actuator that provides displacement of tool guide, and two clamping actuators which provide the holding force. PZT element have low tensile strength and shear. So often fail under tensile and shear stress. To prevent failure, the pre-load housing was designed and fabricated to the optimal design condition according to the variation of the hinge stiffness by FEM(Finite Element Method) analysis. This is open-loop control and input voltage signals are three square wave of 50~60 percent duty cycles at each of the PZT elements. Also the dynamic characteristics of the system was verified by experiment results of the inchworm motor.

In this paper, a new type of inchworm motion actuator is developed in fabrication of actuators for micro-press machine. This is consisted of three piezoelectric actuators, one is for moving the tool guide and the other are for clamping the guide. The inchworm motor provides both high load and large displacement in small size actuator. PZT has compressive strength and often fails under tensile stress and pulling. Thus, in order to prevent failure, we have designed pre-load housing and accomplished FEM analysis. The pre-load housing was used for determining the optimal design condition by comparing the von-mises stresses with the change of hinge stiffness. Also, in order to predict the performance of the motor under certain conditions, the system model was simulated using MATLAB. This is open loop control actuator and driven by the period of input voltage.

Ultrasonic machining is effective for machining of extreme hard and brittle materials, including glass, ceramic, carbide, graphite. The major machining principle involves the direct hammering as well as the impact of abrasive particles on the workpiece. Also, it involve cavitation erosion. The general workpiece is flat side. This study attempted micro hole machining of a curved surface of glass tube. Ultrasonic machining is fault of the slow machining speed. An experiment does and got 16 seconds validity machining time as increasing the processing speed. Moreover, entrance crack and sur face roughness was similar both machining speed is slow and fast. Several micro hole of glass tube machined using one micro tool, but tool wear is infinitesimal.
