L-carnosine이 배양 섬유아세포의 산소 소비량 증가와 세포증식에 미치는 촉진효과에 관한 저자들의 예비실험결과와 관련해서, L-carnosine이 창상 후 표피 재생, 콜라겐조직 형성, 모세혈관의 증식뿐 아니라 창상조직의 RNA, DNA 및 단백질량을 증가시키는데 현저한 효과가 있음이 확인되었다. In relation to our preliminary experiments on the effect of L-carnosine upon the increased oxygen consumption and cell proliferation of cultured fibroblast, it was found that L-carnosine exhibited a significantly increasing effect on not only the epithelialization, collagenous tissue formation and capillary proliferation but also the amount of RNA, DNA and protein of wound-site tissues.

In relation to our preliminary experiments on the effect of L-carnosine upon the increased oxygen consumption and cell proliferation of cultured fibroblast, it was found that L-carnosine exhibited a significantly increasing effect on not only the epithelialization, collagenous tissue formation and capillary proliferation but also the amount of RNA, DNA and protein of wound-site tissues.

It was attempted to observe the physiological role of L-carnosine (β-alanyl-L-histidine), especially wound healing effect in the view of biochemical standpoint. The effect of L-carnosine on the proliferation, the change of collagen production and secretion of rat skin fibroblast (Sprague-Dawley strain, fetal age:18-20 days) was investigated. Proliferation of cultured fibroblast for 24 hours was accelerated to 120-130% in the presence of L-carnosine. The proliferation of fibroblast, which was cultured in fetal calf serum-free medium, was accelerated significantly. It is suggested that the L-carnosine may act as a fibroblast growth factor (F.G.F.) in the process of wound healing. It was found that the L-carnosine exhibited a stimulating effect on the production and secretion of collagen in non-trypsinized fibroblast.

About 20% of increased survival rate was found in chick embryo when L-carnosine was present, and it was demonstrated employing bioassay method that L-carnosine accelerated angiogenesis in fertilized egg. Experimental results from the studies of ³H-thymidine incorporation into bovine aorta endothlial cell in vitro indicated that L-carnosine greatly stimulated proliferation of the cell during the period of 48-and 72-hour culture. Taken together the results, it appears that L-carnosine acts as an angiogenesis factor in the process of would healing. Incorporation of ^(14)C-putrescine into cultured fibroblast reached plateau in 30 minutes and the incorporation was independent of L-carnosine concentration up to 10^(-2)%, L-Carnosine stimulated activity of membrane-bound transglutaminase during the period of 6-and 9-hour culture (39-50%) in trypsinized fibroblast.
