Recently, there has been growing necessity to estimate the future travel demand of high speed train because the circumstance of high speed train service is rapidly changing with the launching of 2011 second stage of Gyeongbu high speed railway(Dongdaegu-Busan) and the completion of 2014 first stage of Honam high speed railway(Yongsan-Gwangju), etc. This study was designed to estimate future travel demand by analyzing the transport performance and train service characteristics of Gyeongbu and Honam line. This study presents the maximum load section and the changed future travel demand, which wil be applied to establish a train operation plan.

다목적 화차는 기존 평판화차 및 컨테이너 화차에 탈부착이 가능한 수송용기를 장착할 수 있도록 하여 컨테이너 및 무개화차 화물을 수송하는 화차를 의미한다. 본 연구는 탈부착식 수송용기 및 다목적 화차의 실질적인 적용 효과를 높이기 위해 품목별 물동량 및 화차운행횟수를 분석하고 투입 가능 구간 선정 및 운영방안을 검토하였다. 다목적 화차는 계절별, 품목별 급격한 수요 변동으로 인한 무개화차 활용도 저하의 문제점을 해결하고 화차의 운행 효율 및 활용도를 높임으로써 원활한 물류수송에 기여할 것으로 기대된다. Multi-purpose freight car is very useful to overcome the unbalance between freight demand and freight car supply. it means removable container is the auxiliary device to make flat car and container and it will be able to transport the container and flat freight. The study is analyzed the freight car operation frequency and freight volume and researched the efficient operation plan. The multi-purpose freight car will contribute in improved the seasonal and the item demand fluctuation and solved the problem of decrease utilization of the open freight car.

As the ticket issuing methods have been diversified for the convenience of the passengers such as ticketless service(SMS ticket, e-ticket, home ticket), automatic ticket issuing machine and consignment ticket sale, maintaining the current number of ticket booth has been becoming a issue. Too many booth can cause the inefficiency of the cost of labor. According to the Charter of Customer Service of Korail, on the other hand, 95% of passengers have to purchase a train ticket within 5 minutes. This study was designed to present a decision making model for the optimum number of ticket booth which can affect an efficient operation of train station and improvement of customer convenience. And, this paper shows the proper manpower of ticket booth and the change of customer waiting time by analyzing the arrival and ticket issuing time of passengers based on "Queueing Theory". However, it is insufficient to be generalized due to some limitations of analysis. This study will contribute to improve customer satisfaction by reducing the waiting time at the ticket booth. In addition, presenting the optimum number of booth is expected to have an effect on the increase of productivity and cost savings.
도시철도 7호선 연장 개통에 따른 경인선 수요변화 연구

Recently, there has been growing interest in Gyongin Line demand estimation, because SMRT(Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation) Line 7 will be extended west by 9.8km from Onsu to meet the Gyongin Line at Bupyeong-gu Office. This study was designed to estimate the change of traffic demand in Gyongin Line before and after the completion year 2011, also provide against the economic loss caused by the derived demand from Gyongin Line to SMRT Line 7. In this paper we give preliminary results for the strategic plans for traffic demand estimation and train operating plan in Gyongin Line by analyzing transport performance of Seoul metropolitan subway, and an additional study on the transportation market and the urban development plan is needed for more accurate results.

Since 2010 December the Gyeongchun line can provide better service than the other modes in respect of cost & time efficiency by operating electric double track from Sangbong station to Chuncheon station. However customers living in the Northern part of capital area which there are stations of line No.1 have inconvenience to transfering twice to access Gyeongchun line. To minimize inconvenience this study has analyzed the demand variation of Geongchun line upon changing the terminal of some trains on Gyeongchun line which reduces the number of transfer. In this study the demand variation has been estimated by the direct demand model considering only saving time between O/D. So some additional modifications are required because the effect of fare and accession convenience has not been considered.

The railroad freight transport has great merits that can transport mass and specific items(dangerous goods), but it takes a long time because of low accessibility to the logistics facility and the complex process of loading freight in middle station. This paper analyzed volumes and characters of each railroad freight item, and was carried out the effect of applying E&S system to Gyeongbu line containers to find the method of reducing transport time and effective container transportation. As a result of Cost-Effectiveness analysis, the block train(B/T) is reducing transport time more about 1~2 hours. The road congestion cost is saving about 2.2 billion won. And due to skipping work of organizing train, personnel and equipment expenses savings expected about 9 billion won. It is expected that the E&S system enhances the container transport service and has an effect positive influence on making a efficient method of transport. But It is necessary to estimate pre-feasibility of applying E&S system that the standard of estimating cost and benefit is required further examination.

Mungyeng line(Jupyung~Mungyeng) was closed due to a rapid decrease in demand in 1995. However, as the rail transportation demand is expected to increase with the plan to develop a tourist resort and a traffic network in Mungyeng area, it is required to forecast future demand to meet the change of transportation environment in this region. This study predicts the rail transportation demand and analyzes financial benefit in operator"s side in case of reopening this line, based on nation-wide traffic volume data from Korean Transportation Database(KTDB). The results of this research can be applied to not only establishing a train operation plan also improving customer service. Moreover, Korail will have an opportunity to develop new business by linking train service to tourist attractions around the Mungyeng area.
