Tobacco dust samples were collected for two times in primary and secondary process at 4 cigarette manufacturing factories(Shintanzin, Youngju, Wonju, Kwangju) and analyzed to evaluate usage as a raw material in production of reconstituted tobacco. The chemical constituents and HWS of tobacco dust were analyzed. Tobacco dust samples were partitioned by particle size using a series of screens ranging from 20 to 200 mesh. The amount of material retained in each fraction was quantified and sand content was also determined. Appreciable average amounts$(40-65\%)$ material at 4 locations were found to be larger than 60 mesh. Although the amount of material in each fraction increased to a maximum at 100 mesh and then decreased, the $\%$ sand continually increased with decreasing particle size. The chemical constituents and HWS content of tobacco dust have similar values in secondary process of 4 cigarette manufacturing factories but the those of primary process have different values according to the site of occurrence and manufacturing factories.
Maltol-$\alpha$-Glucoside 및 Ethyl Maltol-$\alpha$-Glucoside의 효소적 합성

Cyclodextrin glucanotransferase from Bacillus stearothemophilus and Bacillus macerans synthesized maltol and ethyl maltol monoglucoside, with a series of its maltooligo-glucosides by transglycosylation with dextrin as a donor, and maltol or ethyl maltol as an acceptor. The monoglucoside formed from reaction mixture of maltol or ethyl maltol by the successive actions of Bacillus stearothemophilus cyclodextrin glucanotransferase and Rhizopus glucoamylase was isolated by Diaion HP-20 column and silica gel column chromatography. The structure of the isolated monoglucoside was identified as maltol-$\alpha$-D-glucoside and ethyl maltol-$\alpha$-D-glucoside, respectively, by FAB-MS, UV, $^1$H-NMR, $^{13}$ C-NMR spectra and products by hydrolysis with acid, $\alpha$ - and $\beta$ -glucosidases.

The contents of valepotriates, valerenic acid and their derivatives as mild sedative and antispamodic principles in two Korean valerian roots (Valeriana officinalis var. latifolia Miq. and V. fauriei var. dasycarpa Hara) were investigated and were compared with those in European valerian roots(Valeriana officinalis L.) by BPLC method. Among valepotriate compounds, valtrate was detected as a small amount in two Korean valerian roots, and iso-valtrate and dihydrovaltrate were detected as a trace amount. Among valerenic acid and their derivatives, valerenic acid were contained from 0.9∼3.46 mg/g base on dry weight. Over the vegetation periods investigated, the content of valepotriates remained more or less constant, hut the content of valerenic acid reached its maximum in 3-year old age. The compound isolated from Korean V. officinalis var. latifolia was elucidated as valerenic acid by spectroscopic data such as GC-MS, $^1$H-NMR and $^{13}$ C-NMR, and comparison of GC retention time with that of authentic compound.
