A . Kim,S . Seo,H . W . Lee,M . H . Jo,S . H . Lim ) 한국축산학회 1985 한국축산학회지 Vol.27 No.3

This experiment was conducted on the paddy Held of SNU in Suweon, to compare growth characteristics` winter hardiness and forage yield of selected southern and northern types of winter rye (Secale cereale L.), in comparison with Korean native rye during the 1977-81 season. The southern winter ryes were characterized by an upright habit of growth and the Korean native rye exhibited a semi-uplight growth habit, but the northern winter rye showed a prostrate form of growth. Vitagraze, Athens Abruzzi, Wrens Abruzzi and Wonder grazer were earlier in maturity and grew very vigorously and rapidly in the early spring, but the Korean native and northern rye varieties were late in maturity. Vitagraze, Weser and Athens Abruzzi were the best for winter hardiness of all rye varieties, but no differences in winter hardiness were noted between different types of rye with the exception of Rymin in 1978 and Explorer in 1981 which showed the lowest winter survival. Athens Abruzzi in 1978, Athens Abruzzi, Vitagraze and Elbon in 1979 and Wonder grazcr, Vitagraze, Wrens Abruzzi, Athens Abruzzi and Acco WR 811 in 1981, produced significantly more dry matter yield than the northern and Korean native ryes. The southern winter ryes generally produced more forage than the northern and Korean native varieties. Athens Abruzzi, Wrens Abruzzi and Vitagraze were the highest yielding ryes of all rye varieties for the entire seaons.

Italian ryegrass 의 파종비율이 혼파초지의 수량 및 식생비율에 미치는 영향

        김동암,강태홍( D . A . Kim,T . H . Kang ) 한국축산학회 1974 한국축산학회지 Vol.16 No.2

An experiment was carried oat to determine the effect of different seeding rates of Italian ryegrass on the dry matter yield and botanical composition of Ladino clover orchardgrass mixtures over a period of twelve months. Six different seed mixtures which contained 0, 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 ㎏ of Italian ryegrass with constant rates of orchardgrass and Ladino clover per 10 a were sown in the autumn, 1972. 1. At the first and second cuttings, the total dry matter yield of pasture species and also the yield of Italian ryegrass increased with increase in the seeding rate of Italian ryegrass, whereas the yields of orchardgrass, Ladino clover and weeds decreased. 2. At the third and fourth cuttings, the seeding rate of Italian ryegrass had no effect on the total yield of pasture species due to a trend towards depression in Italian ryegrass yield. The yields of orchardgrass and weeds, however, decreased with increase in the seeding rate of Italian ryegrass, but the yield of Ladino clover increased. 3. Over the experimental period, the increase in total dry matter yield of pasture species was proportional to increase of Italian ryegrass seeding rate, whereas the yields of orchardgrass and weeds were not proportional. 4. At the final stage of the experiment, the botanical composition of orchardgrass decreased with increase in the seeding rate of Italian ryegrass, whereas the composition of Ladino clover increased. 5. As the results of total dry matter yield of pasture species over the experimental period and of the botanical composition at the final stage, it is suggested that sow ing Italian ryegrass at the lower seeding rates, such as 0.3 and 0.5 ㎏ per 10 a is more advantageous than the higher seeding rates, such as 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 ㎏ and also where no Italian ryegrass is added.

        김동암,성경일,조무환 ( D . A . Kim,K . I . Sung,M . H . Jo ) 한국축산학회 1986 한국축산학회지 Vol.28 No.2

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the yield performance of forage rape (Brassica napus subsp. oleifera (Metzg.) Sinsk.) in comparison with the common soiling crops, sucH as oats, rye, hybrid ryegrass and turnips in the late fall period. The crops were seeded on August 25, 1982. Plant height, dry matter percentage and forage yield measurements were taken on October 27, 1982. Forage rape and oats were early in maturity and tall with upright stem. Turnips and rye were later to mature than forage rape and oats, but earlier than hybrid ryegrass in the late fall period. The newer forage rape tended to yield more forage than oats, turnips, rye and hybrid ryegrass. Forage rape, oats and Ponda turnips gave the highest dry matter yield, followed by rye and Polybra turnips. Hybrid ryegrass gave the lowest dry matter yield. Rye, hybrid ryegrass and oats showed a higher percentage of dry matter, but forage rape gave a medium percentage. Based on the results of the experiment it appears that cultivars of forage rape recently introduced from the Netherlands have excellent potential as soiling crops in Korea.

        김동암,전우복,서성,김병균 ( Dong Am Kim,Woo Bock Chun,Sung Seo,Hyung Kyun Kim ) 한국축산학회 1983 한국축산학회지 Vol.25 No.5

To select the best silage type forage, the yield performance, grain percentage, and agronomic characteristics of selected sorghum hybrids (sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) have been evaluated at Suweon and Kwangju areas. The hybrids used in this experiment were Silo Milo, T-E Silomaker, Pioneer 931, Pioneer 944, FS 251 and Suweon 19 hybrid corn. The experiment was arranged as a randomized complete block design with three replications and undertaken over a period of five months from May to September, 1980 and 1981. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. FS 251 and Suweon 19 hybrid corn headed and flowered early than other hybrids, however, Pioneer 931 and Pioneer 944 showed later. 2. Pioneer 931 was found to be a tall and large type hybrid, while FS 251 was a short type one. No diseases were found in all hybrids during the growing season, and only Pioneer 944 showed a little lodging. 3. Average grain percentage to the total forage yield of Suweon 19 hybrid corn was the highest (46.0%), and also those of Silo Milo, FS 251 and T-E Silomaker were high over 30%. However, grain percentage of Pioneer 931 was only 12.6%. There was negative correlation between plant height and grain percentage. 4. Pioneer 931 gave significantly higher forage yield than the control variety, Suweon 19 hybrid corn (p$lt;0.05), and there were no significant differences in forage yield between Silo Milo, T-E Silomaker, Pioneer 944 and Suweon 19 hybrid corn. Dry matter yield of FS 251 was the lowest (p$lt;0.05). 5. The results indicated that Pioneer 931 could be recommended as a silage type hybrid instead of silage corn. Silo-Milo, T-E Silomaker and Pioneer 944 can be grown in the areas where the silage corn is not suitable.

A comparative yield trial has been made on 9 cultivars of grasses, legumes and fodder radish introduced from the Netherlands, with 2 available cultivars N. F. G. perennial ryegrass and Kungjung Chongtae radish as controls at Suweon and Cheju for two years 1978-1979. During the growing season, none of the introduced cultivars significantly outyielded the control cultivar N. F. G. perennial ryegrass, although Barmultra Italian ryegrass and Barspectra westerwolds ryegrass produced 4.6% and 2% more dry matter at Suweon, Barvestra perennial ryegrass and all other cultivars significantly lower than the control. Barmultra Italian ryegrass and Barspectra westerwolds ryegrass produced 12.7% and 3.1% more dry matter than the control cultivar N. F. G. perennial ryegrass at Cheju, but the former was only significantly higher than the control cultivar. Data were also collected on the percentage distribution of yield of ryegrasses and on susceptibility to stem rust.

        김동암,양종성 ( D . A . Kim,J . S . Yang ) 한국축산학회 1975 한국축산학회지 Vol.17 No.5

To evaluate the growth characteristics and seed production, two imported warm season grass and seven native grass species were divided into two groups, tall and mid-grass and grown under pot and field conditions. The results obtained are as follows; (1) A range of 25 to 30 days was required from seeding to 50% emergence of the; grass species when sown in spring. The establishment percentage of native grass species showed a range of 6.3 to 19.5% and that of imported grass species was 22.7 to 23.2%. (2) Of the grass species, Pennisetum japonica, Andropogon micranthus and the imported grass species were the highest in seedling height. In tillering characters, Andropogon micranthus showed the highest, Spodiopogon cotulifer, the lowest and the other species found to be medium. (3) It was found that Panicum coloratura was one of the eariest heading species. The heading of Panicum coloratura was observed at the end of July, but that of Paspalum dilatatum and P. thunbergii was recorded at the beginning of August and the other species appear to be more later. (4) Calmagrostis arundinacea was one of the earliest starting species sprouting on 15th of March, Pennisetum japonica was the latest species and the other species found to be medium. Calmagrostis arundinacea showed the longest growing characteristics, 246 days, intermediate species were Paspalum dilatatum, Panicum and Andropogon micranthus, and Pennisetum japonica found to be the shortest. (5) In the percentage of germination, Pennisetum japonica and Arundinella hirta were the highest, 12.0% and 78.6%, but Spodiopogon sibiricus and S. cotulifer showed the lowest, 15.3% and 11.3% respectively. (6) In seed production, Arundinella hirta and Spodiopogon cotulifer gave a satisfactory performance, 126 ㎏ per 10a, but all other species were less, ranging 58 to 86 ㎏ per 10a.

In order to select higher yielding forage suited for silage, the yield performance and associated characteristics of 23 introduced sorghum-sudangrass hybrids (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) have been evaluated at the Experimental Livestock Farm, COA, SNU, Suweon in 1979 and 1981. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. NK 367, Pioneer 931 and FS 24 gave significant highest forage yields than the control variety, Suweon 19 hybrid corn (P $lt; 0.05). There were no significant differences in forage yield between FS 4, FS 25A, T-E TDN, X 4318, Silo Milo and Suweon 19 hybrid corn, but these sorghum-sudangrass hybrids were the better forage producers. 2. Average grain percentages to the total forage yield of various hybrids tested ranged from 9.8% for FS 24 to 44.8% for FS 351 except NK 367. The grain percentages of FS 351 and Silo Milo were the highest and similar to that of Suweon 19 hybrid corn where 43.5% grain was obtained. 3. FS 251, NK 326 and FS lA headed and flowered early than other hybrids, while Pioneer 931, T-E TDN, X 4318 and Pioneer 944 showed later. NK 367 was the latest hybrid in maturity. 4. NK 367 and Pioneer 931 were found to be as tall type hybrids, while FS 251 and FS 351 appeared short types. Although no diseases and lodging were found in most hybrids, T-E Goldmaker was susceptible to leaf disease and SS IV gave severe lodging during the growing season. 5. The results indicated that Silo Milo, X 4318, FS 25A and T-E Silomaker have high silage yield potential with moderately high grain, and NK 367, Pioneer 931, FS 24, T-E TDN and FS 4 also have high yield potential with relatively low grain.

        김동암,서성,이효원,허삼남 ( Dong Am Kim,Sung Seo,Hyo Won Lee,Sam Nam Hur ) 한국축산학회 1980 한국축산학회지 Vol.22 No.6

Adaptability and agronomic characteristics of a worldwide collection of 800 entries of rye (Secal cereale L.) have been tested to screen out the most promising cultivars of forage rye for Korea during the 1977-80 season. In the test, productivity, winter-hardiness, earliness, plant height and disease reaction were investigated. Preliminary test was initiated on the forage field and interim and final tests were carried out ron the paddy field after harvesting rice plant at the College of Agriculture, Seoul National University. (1) At the final test in 1980, Athens Abruzzi rye gave the highest dry matter yield, followed by MI-72-73-224, 231, 257 and Vita-Graze ryes. I-22-144, Ward D.J. 51, Centeno 52 and Korean native ryes showed the lowest forage yield. (2) No diseases were found in all rye cultivars throughout the growing season. teal rye cultivars used were the best for winter-hardiness except I-22-142, 144, Ward D.J. 39, 44, 46, 48, 49, 51 and Centeno 52 ryes. (3) On the basis of the final evaluation scores, promising cultivars of forage rye for more advanced testing are V/7, V/23, V/24, V/25, Vita-Graze, Athens Abruzzi, MI-72-73-224, 231, 240 and 257 ryes. (4) Most of promising rye cultivars chosen at the final test were earlier in maturity with tall plant height.
