This study is the carried out as a capstone design project in order to learn the fundamental knowledge of the press forming process for an automotive part with the practical design of dies and process parameters. The product shape is obtained with the measurement of the oil filter case for the auto-mission. This study obtains basic process parameters such as the initial blank shape and the blank holding force with the inverse analysis. The incremental stamping analysis is applied to modify and confirm the tool design concept with the determined process parameters. Tools for stamping the product are fabricated with the modified design and the sound prototype is obtained from the try-out.

This paper summarizes the procedure and the result obtained from the capstone design project pursued by the research group of students in Daegu University. This paper demonstrates the design and fabricating procedure of the blanking die for thin-walled tensile specimens. For obtaining adequate process parameters for blanking die, this study utilizes the standard manual of the blanking design and finite element analysis of the shearing process. Blanking die is manufactured in the order purchasing tool materials and attachment parts, hole machining, shape machining, heat treatment, wire cutting, grinding and assembly. The prototype fabricating is carried out with the manufactured tools, which confirms the shape and the quality of blanked specimens.
