Dummy fuel assembly for the Research Reactor was tested for out-pile mechanical characterization. The test program includes modal (vibration) testing , static deflection(bending) test, axial drop test, and flow-induced vibration test using cold hydraulic loop. Vibration testing is to identify fuel assembly dynamic properties, such as natural frequency, mode shape and damping. Static bending test is to measure bending stiffness of test assembly. Drop test is carried out to get a impact load and restitution factor. Flow induced vibration test is to measure operating vibration amplitude, frequency and critical velocity for the fluidelastic instability. Test results will be used for fuel licensing support and preparation of analysis input data for safety analysis. The paper describes the detail in test procedure and discuss the test results.
