This dissertation takes aim at researching of a concept which Kierkegaard coined in developing the negative motive of his existnetial dialectic. We can find his nihilistic elements in his concept of anxiety and concept of despair named "the sickness unto death" among his main existential categories. The concept of the demonic would have a key function of modern nihilism in relation to his existential dialectic. So in according to his phenomenological analysis we can investigate the negative function of the demonic through his existential thought. And then in analysing anxiety about the good we can find dialectical possibility of the demonic for the hopeful salvation. For the demonic function of anxiety about good presuppose always existential freedom in christianity. Contrary to the case of demonic anxiety we can not get an optimistic perspective about the concept of the despair, because Kierkegaard provides two kinds of despairs; the one is despair in possibility of salvation, the other despair in perdition. The despair in perdition is called the demonic despair. So the demonic dialectic of hopeless despair nourishs modern nihilism in destroying human self. Now we can conclude that the concept of the demonic is the origin of modern nihilism which Kierkegaard predicted very earlier than Nietzsche.
