From the whole plant of Ajuga spectabilis Nakai (Labiatae) a iridoid glucoside was isolated. Its structure was assigned mainly on the PMR-data for the glucoside itself and its acetate. Proton coupling constantand and chemical shift are utilized for estimating the most favoured conformations of the compound. This compound was found that molecular formular was C_(17)H_(26)O_(12) and that acetylation gave heptaacetate derivative.

A new iridoid glucoside was isolated from the roots of Phlomis umbrosa Turz. (Sok-dan; Labiatae). This compound was obtained as needle form crystal arid named as Umbroside. It has a molecular formula C_(19)H_(28)O_(13). The structure of the Umbroside was assumed from the data of chemical shifts of PMR spectra. By enzyme hydrolysis, It produces a stable aglucone and glucose.

A novel iridoid glucoside was isolated from the root of Phlomis umbrosa Turcz. (Labiatae) Sok-dan and named as Umbroside. It was obtained as amorphous powder and its molecular formula is C_(19)H_(18)O_(12). By enzyme hydrolysis it produced a stable aglucone and β-D-glucose. The structure of Umbroside was determined as 8-O-acetyl shanzhiside methyl ester. Antitumor activity of Labiatae plants was also tested.

Sok-den (Phlomis umbrosa Turcz.) is a perennial herb in Labiatae plants. Shanzhiside methyl ester was isolated from BuOH Ex. of this plant. It was obtained as amorphous powder and its molecular formula is C_(17)H_(26)O<sub>11</sub>. Its structure was determined by chemical reactions an spectral analysis and compared with authentic sample of pentaacetate.

Melamdyrum roseum Max, is an annual herb in Scrophulariaceae plants. The materials were collected in Kyeong-Ki-Do in 1880. The BuOH extract was evaporated under readuced pressure. The residue was column chromatographed over silica gel with Benzene-MeOH (8 : 1) as an eluent and it gave the amorphous powder. Compound I has a moecular formula C_(17)H_(26)O_(10) and it was identified as mussaenoside by chemical data, UV, IR, NMR spectra and compared with the authentic sample of Mussaenoside tetraacetate.

Gentiana uchiyamana Nakai is a perennial herb in Gentianaceous plants. From the root of Gentiana uchiyamana Nakai, the bitter secoiridoid glucosides were isolated and identified as gentiopicroside and swertiamarin. A high-performance liquid chromatog raphic method for quantitative determination of bitter component, i.e. gentiopicroside in the roots of Gentiana scabra and G, uchiyamana Nakai was developed, using a μ-Bondapak C<sub>18</sub> column and methanol-water mobile phases. The content of gentiopicroside was calculated from calibration curve previously prepared using the standard, 3.55% in the roots of Gentiana scabra and 1.58% in Gentiana uchiyamana Nakai.

한국산 인삼의 성분에 관한 연구(Ⅰ) : 인삼 Sterol의 구성 성분에 대하여

Sterols were obtained from the non-saponifiable matters of ethereal and methanolic extracts of the root of Panax ginseng. The composition of sterols has been determined by gas chromatographic analysis. It was noted that campesterol, stigmastrol and β-sitosterol were the major sterols in the ginseng. The results showed that contents of sterols were campesterol, 4.01∼5.82%, stigmasterol, 18.32∼19.12% and β-sitosterol, 75.11∼77.74%.
Iridoid Glycoside (Ⅰ) : Studies on the Iridodid Glycoside of Ajuga spectabilis Nakai

A new iridoid glucoside was isolated from the whole plant of Ajuga spectabilis Nakai (Jaran-cho; Labiatae). This compound was obtained as white plate-like crystal and named as Jaranidoside. It has a molecular formula C_(17)H_(26)O_(12) and mp 128∼130℃. The structure of the Jaranidoside was assumed from data of chemical reactions and PMR specturum of the compound. To determine the most favorable conformation, informations on the proton coupling and chemical shift were used. Jaranidoside exhibited a stimulating activity on smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. No antimicrobial activity on five microorganism strains was observed.
