The purpose of this study is to analyze French loanwords that have come into the English language since Middle English period. Influences of the Norman Conquest and Restoration upon the English language were so vast that French prevailed over every aspect of life including politics, administration, culture, religion, and the upper classes` interests and entertainments. By comparing Washington`s inaugural address with Clinton`s, we can assume that French loanwords are less used in the twentieth century English than in the eighteenth century English. The results are as follows: over 46.0% of the total 511 words in Washington`s address and over 36.6% of the total 636 words in Clinton`s address were of French origin. Interestingly, content words such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives were borrowed much more than function words such as pronouns, conjunctions, numerals and prepositions. From this analysis we may conclude that native resources such as English pronouns, conjunctions, numerals and prepositions and the like give a fundamental frame in English vocabulary while loanwords consist of content words such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

There have been numerous conflicts between formal paradigm and functional paradigm in dealing with the various linguistic phenomena. Chomskyan generative theory such as ST, EST and Government -Binding theory tends to interpret coreference relations in terms of Binding Condition(A, B, C) without recourse to meaning or language use in the anaphoric expressions like pronouns and reflexives. Linguistic processes which seems to be governed purely by syntactic factors must be reanalyzed in functional perspective. This paper aims to describe anaphoric phenomena in Kuno`s framework of empathy, direct discourse analysis and other functional approaches.

We manufactured the metal hydrides of $(Ti_{0.88}Mg_{0.12})H_2$ using a very easy and cheap way that Ti-12%Mg blending powder was mechanically milled with liquid milling media such as isopropyl alcohol ($C_3H_8O$, containing oxygen) and hexane ($C_6H_{14}$, no oxygen) as hydrogen source. The $(Ti_{0.88}Mg_{0.12})H_2$ synthesized in isopropyl alcohol contained the high oxygen of 11.2%, while one in hexane had the low oxygen content of 0.7%. Such a difference of oxygen content affected the dehydriding behavior, phase transformation, and microstructural evolution at high temperature, which was investigated through X-ray diffraction and DSC measurements, and electron microscope observations.
