Adult mongrel dogs were divided into 6 groups, Control, Antrectomy (Billroth Ⅰ), Antrectomy plus Vagotomy. Antrectomy(Billroth Ⅱ), Gastrojejunostomy and Pyloroplasty combined with gastrojejunostomy. Each group consisted of 5 dogs, and blood samples were taken 9 times from each dogs, including fasting and intervals of 15 minutes during the 1st hour, of 30 minutes during the 2nd hour, and of 60 minutes during the 3rd and 4th hours after glucose administration on the 60th postoperative day. Glucose was given through the Levin tube into stomach, 1.5gm of glucose per kilogram of body weight being given in a 20 per cent solution, and 10㎖. of 50 per cent glucose was given intravenously after 2 weeks interval following oral glucose tolerance tests. The filtrate for the blood sugar determinations was prepared by the Folin-Wu Method. 1. In antrectomy with gastrojejunostomy group, the peak, 109.2±6.4㎎./100㎖., appeared at 30 minutes after sugar ingestion and the mean blood sugar level as 94.2±2.9㎎./100 ㎖., even lower than the mean blood sugar values 125.4±9.3㎎./100㎖. in control group, which was 24.9% reduction and lowest blood sugar curve in this series of experiment. 2. In the group of pyloroplasty combined with gastrojejunostomy, the peak values most delayed appearing at 60 minutes after sugar ingestion, the blood sugar value being 112.6 ±6.2㎎./100㎖., and the mean blood sugar level was 97.7±7.9㎎./100㎖. in which 22.1% reduction than the control group. The rate of reduction and the blood sugar curve were almost similar to antrectomy with gastrojejunostomy group. 3. In antrectomy combined with vagotomy group, the peak, 116.711.1㎎./100㎖., appeared at 45 minutes after sugar ingestion and the most sluggish lowering curve observed thereafter in this series of experiment. The mean blood sugar level was 104.4±10.0㎎./100㎖. in which 16.8% lower than the control lower group. 4. In gastrojejunostomy group, the blood sugar curve was almost similar to antrectomy combined with vagotomy, the peak, 125.0±7.0㎎./100㎖., appeared at 45 minutes after sugar ingestion and the sluggish lowering curve observed thereafter. The mean blood sugar level was 106.0±9.8㎎./100㎖. in which 15.5% reduction than the control group. 5. Postprandial maximum blood sugar level was most markedly elevated in the group of antrectomy with gastroduodenostomy in which the peak value was 151.8±7.7㎎./100㎖., seen at 45 minutes after the ingestion of sugar. At 180 minutes the value 91.2±6.9㎎./100㎖., was steeply declined. The mean blood sugar level was 118.8±7.7㎎./100㎖., that is, 5.3% reduction of control in which most feeble reduction in this series of experiment. 6. The intravenous glucose tolerance tests usually showed higher value than the oral glucose tolerance tests throughout in this series of experiment. The steeply elevated peak value appeared at 15 minutes following the administration of 50 per cent glucose and rapidly declined curve observed thereafter. However, there were no characteristic features.
