In this paper, the thermal shock responses of collinear cracks in a layered medium are investigated based on the uncoupled, quasi-static plane thermoelasticity. The medium is modeled as a bonded structure composed of a surface layer and a semi-infinite substrate. Between these two dissimilar homogeneous constituents, a functionally graded interfacial zone exists with the nonhomogeneous features of continuously varying thermoelastic properties. Three cracks are assumed to be present in the layered medium, one in each one of the constituent materials, aligned collinearly normal to the nominal interfaces. A system of singular integral equations is solved, subjected to the forcing terms of equivalent transient thermal tractions acting on the locations of cracks via superposition. Main results presented are the transient thermal stress intensity factors to illustrate the parametric effects of various geometric and amterial combinations of the medium with the thermoelastically graded interfacial zone and the collinear cracks.
Energy Release Rate of an Interlaminar Crack in Fibrous Composite Laminates

The equations of anisotropic elasticity are employed to investigate the problem of an interlaminar crack in a laminated fiber-reinforced composite material under the state of generalized plane deformation. In the analytical framework, it is assumed that the dissimilar anisotropic half-spaces with different fiber orientations are bonded through a matrix interlayer. The interlayer models the matrix-rich interlaminar region that contains the crack. Formulation of the crack problem is reduced to a system of Cauchy-type singular integral equations of the first kind. The total energy release rate is defined as the global driving force of the interlaminar crack, which is then evaluated for various combinations of material and geometric parameters of the composite media
Prediction of Crack Kinking in a Thermoelastic Stirp Under Nonisothermal Loading

The plane thermoelasticity equations are used to investigate the steady-state nonisothermal crack problem for a strip of finite thickness. A crack that disturbs a uniform heat flow is assumed to exist at an arbitrary location parallel to the edges of the strip. Formulation of the current thermoelasticity problem is reduced to solving two sets of Cauchy-type singular integral equations for temperature and thermal stress fields in the cracked medium. In order to characterize the singular behavior of thermal stresses around the crack tip, the mixed-mode thermal stress intensity factors are evaluated. Subsequently, with the aid of values of such stress intensities, the maximum principal stress criterion is employed to predict the probable cleavage direction of crack growth and the corresponding values of effective tensile-mode thermal stress intensity factors as a function of relative crack size and locations.

The incidence of retained foreign body in the lower. limb is not uncommon. Also, the migration of the retained foreign body in the lower limb may be an not uncommon problem. But no report about this topic was introduced in this journal previously. Now, we report a case of migrating foreign body (glass) in the lower limb with regard to previous report, which made no problem during about 15 years until recently, and which was never noticed by her herself during that period. Key Words; Migration, Retained Foreign Body.

Numerous causes of the carpal tunnel syndrome have been reported, but hype-rtrophic change of median nerve at wrist has been rarely reported. The authors have experienced a case of carpal tunnel syndrome due to bilateral hypertrophic changes of the median nerve. This case was treated by complete excision of transverse carpal figment.
