There are several indirect methods to measure the amount of body fat but the relationship between body surface area and the total amount of body fat has not been reported in Korea. In order to study the calculating method of the amount of body fat using the body surface area, the total amount of body fat of 50 experimentees was calculated by the densitometry and then the ecuation which is induced from the above-mentioned method was applied to the target population, 1952 Korean youth. The results from the anthropometric mesurement of 50 experimentees as fllows : (1) Average body height ; 166.8±3.31㎝ Average body weight ; 56.9±4.9KG Average body volume ; 53.7±4.86L Average body density ; 1.059±0.06KG/L (2) The total amount of the calculated body fat and %fat was also, 5.3±2.37% of body weight. (3) The correlation coefficient between fat weight estimated by densitometry and body surface area was and the induced regression equation by densitometry and body surface area was the induced regression equation from the anthropometric measurement was P.W(KG)=16.1328(B.S.A0~17.4664 (4) The coefficients of correlations were summarized as follows ; ① r=+0.947(p0.01) petween body surface area and body volume ② r=+0.764(p0.01) between body surface area and skin-fold thickness of subscapular ③ r=+0.942(p0.01) between body surface area and relative weight ④ r=+0.536(p0.01) between body surface area and body density (5) By the anthrepometric meaurement using the above-menthioned regression equation, the total amount of body fat of 1,952 Korean youth was calculated. The total amount of body fat was 9.06±1.79KG and % fat by means of body surrface area was 15.52±2.84% of body weight, respecitively.
