The intra-amniotic administration of prostaglandin F2a has been tried for the therapeutic termination in 20 mid and third trimester pregnancies and following results were obtained. 1. Termination was achieved by single intra-amniotic administration of PG F2a 25mg. in 14 cases with the success "rate of 70 per cent. Additional 3 cases of pregnancy were terminated by repeated instillation of PG F2a, giving 85 per cent of corrected success rate. 2. Mean induction-termination interval was 12 hours 58 minutes in successful cases with single instillation. 3. Undesirable side effects, i.e, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever and/or dizziness of mild degrees were observed in 7 cases. 4. No change has been observed in vital signs, blood count, blood chemistry and urinalysis before and after the instillation of PG F2a.

大部分의 子宮內裝置들이 매우 效率的인 避姙用具이기는 하나 出血이나 月經過多 또는 子宮收縮에 依한 疼痛等과 같은 副作用으로 因해서 受容性이 滅少되고 있음은 周知의 事實이다. 一部 硏究家들은 이와같은 出血이나 疼痛이 裝置의 揷入으로 말미암은 子宮의 側方膨大에 基因하리라고 報告한바 있으며 Tatum은 表面績이 작고 子宮內膜에 最少量의 壓力만을 가해서 子宮의 側方膨大를 激減시킬 수 있는 形態와 크기를 가진 T型의 裝置를 考案하기에 이르렀다. 그러나 포리에칠렌으로 된 이 T型의 裝置는 副作用의 頻度를 낮춰주기는 하였으나 避姙效率에 있어서는 Lippes의 loop 보다 훨씬 떨어짐이 밝혀졌다. Zipper, Mendel 및 Prager는 家兎의 子宮에 揷入한 銅이나 亞鉛으로된 螺線이 姙娠을 豫防할 수 있음을 觀察 報告한바 있는데 T型裝置의 垂直桿에 가느다란 銅線을 감아서 T型裝置의 長點과 桐의 避姙效果를 倂合시킨것이 T-Copper (T-Cu)이며 韓國婦人에 있어서의 T-Cu의 效率을 測定하고 副作用의 頻度를 觀察하기 爲하여 T-Cu를 着用한 516名의 婦人에 對한 追求 調査를 試圖하여 다음과 같은 結果를 얻었다. 1) T-Cu를 着用한 516名의 婦人으로 累積된 總 使用月數는 約 2,300個月이었다. 2) 累積中斷率은 9個月末에 100婦人當 2.8로 Lippes loop의 同率보다 높았으나 이는 本 硏究에서 非醫學的인 理由로 裝置를 除去한 例가 많았던 까닭이다. 3) 累積姙娠率은 9個月末에 100婦人當 1.9로 Lippes loop의 姙娠率과 別差없었으나 이는 本 硏究의 觀察期間이 짧았던 까닭으로 推測되며 보다 오랜 觀察期間이 蓄積되면 보다 낮은 姙娠率을 보일 것으로 思慮된다. 4) 累積排出率은 9個月末에 100婦人當 5.4로 Lippes loop의 排出率보다 훨씬 낮았다. 5) 累積除去率은 9個月末에 100婦人當 19.5로 比較的 높았으나 醫學的인 理由 卽 副作用으로 因한 除去는 全除去例의 56%로 非醫學的인 事由로 裝置를 除去한 例거 많아서 除去率과 總中斷率이 높았다.
<i>Panax notoginseng</i> Inhibits Tumor Growth through Activating Macrophage to M1 Polarization

<P>Among the herbal ingredients of HangAmDan-B, a medicinal formula that redirects macrophages to become tumoricidal effectors, we found that <I>Panax notoginseng</I> (Burk.) F. H. Chen is the active component responsible for its macrophage-mediated antitumor activity. The water extracted roots of <I>P. notoginseng</I> (PN) did not affect the viability of RAW264.7 murine macrophage-like cells and murine Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) cells up to a concentration of 100<TEX>$ \,$</TEX><TEX>$ \mu $</TEX>g/mL. However, the transfer of culture media from PN-treated RAW264.7 cells suppressed the growth of LLC cells. The expression of classically activated (M1) markers, such as interleukin (IL)-1<TEX>$ \beta $</TEX>, monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP)-1, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-<TEX>$ \alpha $</TEX>, and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), was increased by PN treatment. The expression of alternatively activated (M2) markers including CD206, IL-10, and <TEX>$ \beta $</TEX>-<TEX>$ N$</TEX>-acetylhexosaminidases (YM-1) was reduced by PN treatment in the presence of IL-4. Flow cytometry also revealed that PN drives M1 activation of RAW264.7 cells. The transfer of culture media from PN-treated RAW264.7 cells induced the apoptosis of LLC cells as measured by flow cytometry using Annexin-V staining and western blot analysis for caspase cascade-related proteins. In addition, the results from <I>in vivo</I> tumor allograft model demonstrated that PN reduced both tumor volume and weight. The activation of macrophages toward an M1 phenotype was confirmed in the tumor allograft tumor model. These results collectively show that PN can serve as a potent anticancer agent through reeducation of macrophages toward an M1 phenotype.</P>
