In 2016, the 4th industrial revolution, represented by hyper-connected and hyper-intelligent technologies, began, and the global automobile industry is now focusing on the development of smart cars, such as driverless vehicles, connected vehicles, and electric vehicles. In particular, as electric vehicles with autonomous driving features are to be manufactured and sold, the precise prediction of driving distances has become more important. If the actual driving distance is shorter than the prediction of the available driving distance, the autonomous vehicle will stop on the way to its destination. Moreover, the route for electric vehicles should be determined by considering the location of charging stations and available driving distance. Existing studies about the expected driving distance do not appropriately reflect all of the various circumstances, components, and variables, thus restricting their predictive performance. In particular, current methods do not precisely predict the running resistance of electric vehicles, or changes in driving distance caused by the use of electrical functions in such vehicles. Thus, a vehicle energy model for predicting the exact driving distance of an electric vehicle is described in this paper, considering the driving speed, road status, tire pressure, temperature, driving altitude, regenerative braking, and other factors. Finally, the proposed model for predicting the driving distance of electric vehicles was confirmed to be feasible by an in-vehicle test on real roads.

Prognostics and health management (PHM) is recently converging throughout the industry, one of the trending issue is to detect abnormal conditions at decanter centrifuge during water treatment facilities. Wastewater treatment operation produces corrosive gas which results failures on attached sensors. This scenario causes frequent sensor replacement and requires highly qualified manager’s visual inspection while replacing important parts such as bearings and screws. In this paper, we propose anomaly detection by measuring the vibration of the decanter centrifuge based on the video camera images. Measuring the vibration of the screw decanter by applying the optical flow technique, the amount of movement change of the corresponding pixel is measured and fed into the LSTM model. As a result, it is possible to detect the normal/warning/dangerous state based on LSTM classification. In the future work, we aim to gather more abnormal data in order to increase the further accuracy so that it can be utilized in the field of industry.

Background/Aims: Young Korean men are obligated to serve in the military for 18 to 21 months. We investigated the effects of military service on steatotic liver disease (SLD) and other metabolic parameters. Methods: Pre-enlistment health check-up performed from 2019 to 2022 and in-service health check-up performed from 2020 to 2022 were merged as paired data. SLD was defined as a hepatic steatosis index of 36 or higher. Hypertension (HTN) and hypertriglyceridemia were also included in the analysis. Results: A total of 503,136 paired cases were included in the analysis. Comparing pre-enlistment and in-service health check-ups, the prevalence of SLD (22.2% vs 17.6%, p<0.001), HTN (7.6% vs 4.3%, p<0.001), and hypertriglyceridemia (8.1% vs 2.9%, p<0.001) decreased during military service. In terms of body mass index, the proportion of underweight (8.2% vs 1.4%, p<0.001) and severely obese (6.1% vs 4.9%, p<0.001) individuals decreased over time. Regarding factors associated with SLD development and resolution, age was positively associated with SLD development (odds ratio, 1.146; p<0.001) and a health check-up interval of <450 days was a protective factor for SLD development (odds ratio, 0.746; p<0.001). Those serving in the marines were less likely to develop SLD, whereas those serving in the navy were more likely to develop SLD. Serving in the army or the navy was negatively associated with SLD resolution, whereas serving in the air force was positively associated with SLD resolution. Conclusions: The prevalence of SLD, HTN, and hypertriglyceridemia decreased substantially during Korean military service.
