Theories based on free-volume concepts have been developed to characterize the self and mutual diffusion coefficients of low molecular weight penetrants in rubbery and glassy polymer-solvent systems. These theories are applicable over a wide range of temperatures and concentrations. In this paper, two alternative freevolume based approaches used to evaluate the solvent self-diffusion in glassy polymer-solvent systems are compared in terms of their differences and applicability.

Aims: Iatrogenic bile duct injuries (BDI) following cholecystectomy is a substantial problem in the era of laparoscopic advancement in surgical gastroenterology. Early and accurate diagnosis and management involving multidisciplinary team are of paramount importance. Though endoscopic procedures are most frequently used in management of BDI, surgical repair is the necessity especially in cases of complete transection. Aim of the review is to analyze our experience of management of BDI Methods: This is retrospective analysis of all operated cases of BDI Between May 2014 - December 2017. Patients’ clinical details, investigations, operative details, perioperative outcomes and follow-up were recorded. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package of Social Sciences 23 Results: Total of 23 cases of BDI were operated at TUTH over 42 months out of which 87% were female with age range 17-59 years. Majority cases occurred following laparoscopic cholecystectomy (34.8% while conversion from laparoscopic to open in 26.1 %) and 30.4 % following open cholecystectomy. Injury identified mostly in early postoperative period (69.6 %). E3 (60.9%) injury was most common followed by E2 (21.7%). Median time of repair were 90 days (7 weeks- 25 years). Roux-en-Y Hepaticojejunostomy (HJ) done in 20 cases, 2 cases had revised HJ while 1 case had Right hepatectomy and HJ. Median duration of follow-up of 20 months (range, 4-44) revealed excellent outcomes. Conclusions: Roux-en-Y HJ is the most frequent surgical treatment along with control of sepsis and delayed repair after delineating the proper anatomy for better outcomes in hands of experienced hepatobiliary surgeons.

The aim of this investigation was to select effective Pseudomonas sp. strains that can enhance the productivity of soybean-wheat cropping systems in Vertisols of Central India. Out of 13 strains of Pseudomonas species tested in vitro, only five strains displayed plant growth-promoting (PGP) properties. All the strains significantly increased soil enzyme activities, except acid phosphatase, total system productivity, and nutrient uptake in field evaluation; soil nutrient status was not significantly influenced. Available data indicated that six strains were better than the others. Principal component analysis (PCA) coupled cluster analysis of yield and nutrient data separated these strains into five distinct clusters with only two effective strains, GRP3 and HHRE81 in cluster IV. In spite of single cluster formation by strains GRP3 and HHRE81, they were diverse owing to greater intracluster distance (4.42) between each other. These results suggest that the GRP3 and HHRE81 strains may be used to increase the productivity efficiency of soybean-wheat cropping systems in Vertisols of Central India. Moreover, the PCA coupled cluster analysis tool may help in the selection of other such strains.

Forty-five adults with type IV-A choledochal cysts (CDC) who underwent extrahepatic cyst excision from January 2013 to December 2021 were followed up for a median interval of 25 months (range, 2 to 10 years) to observe the long-term complications in the remaining intrahepatic cyst. Late complications in varying combinations were seen in 10 patients, which included cholangitis and/or intrahepatic stones in 9 patients, intrahepatic bile duct stenosis with stones in 2 patients, anastomotic stricture in 6 patients, and left lobar atrophy with intrahepatic stones in 3 patients. Out of 6 patients who required re-do hepaticojejunostomy (HJ), three patients had left lobe atrophy with patent HJ anastomosis and a recurrent attack of cholangitis on follow-up at 3, 8, and 10 years. Complications occur frequently after extrahepatic cyst excision for type IV-A CDC and require a long-term follow-up.
