      • Understanding the Trend of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Ash Treatment with regards to Metallic/Ionic Content

        ( Cheng Lip Fong ),( Fumitake Takahashi ) 한국폐기물자원순환학회(구 한국폐기물학회) 2015 한국폐기물자원순환학회 3RINCs초록집 Vol.2015 No.-

The global municipal solid waste (MSW) generation has increased and the incineration has become a major treatment pathway of MSW due to its ability of volume reduction by up to 90%. The residues in the form of ashes, however, must still be disposed, either via landfilling or recycle. With an increasing amount of MSW incineration (MSWI) ashes being generated, many peer-review paper publications that researched MSWI ashes have been produced. The objective of this research is to understand the locality and the history of MSWI ash researches. Because the contents of published papers reflect the researchers’ attention or public focus, paper content analysis enables us to better understand the research history and trends. Our analysis indicated that Europe and Asia has lead MSWI ash researches likely owing to high population density and corresponding larger difficulty of waste management. Increasing paper publication on MSWI ahs researches since 1970 suggests growing attentions and/or social request of MSWI ash disposal and in particular, recycles. Characterizations and treatments including hydrothermal, chemical, and cementation technologies have been investigated mainly to understand ash properties and develop heavy metal immobilization. Strong attentions for ash recycle seem to encourage recycle application researches for next stage.
