The implementation of imaging methods that enable sensitive and specific observation of anatomical structures has been a constant in the evolution of endodontic therapy. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) enables 3-dimensional (3D) spatial anatomical navigation in the 3 volumetric planes (sagittal, coronal and axial) which translates into great accuracy for the identification of endodontic pathologies/conditions. CBCT interpretation consists of 2 main components: (i) the generation of specific tasks of the image and (ii) the subsequent interpretation report. A systematic and reproducible method to review CBCT scans can improve the accuracy of the interpretation process, translating into greater precision in terms of diagnosis and planning of endodontic clinical procedures. MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Science, Google Scholar, Embase and Scopus were searched from inception to March 2023. This narrative review addresses the theoretical concepts, elements of interpretation and applications of the CBCT scan in endodontics. In addition, the contents and rationale for reporting 3D endodontic imaging are discussed.

Ceramic composite materials consisting of a boron carbide (B4C) matrix and titanium diboride (TiB2) secondary phase werein-situ manufactured via chemical reaction of B4C and titanium diboride (TiO2) during hot pressing at a temperature of 1850°C under a pressure of 35 MPa for 60 min in a vacuum atmosphere. The TiO2 addition has a positive effect on bothdensification of B4C-TiB2 ceramic composites and portion of TiB2 secondary phase. When adding 10 to 50 wt.% TiO2 to B4C,sintered densities increased from 92.1 to 99.5% and portion of TiB2 secondary phase increased from 3.9 to 40.2 vol.%. Whenincreasing the TiB2 portion to its maximal value, the fracture toughness of the composite reached the maximal value of 7.51MPa.m1/2. The hardness of B4C-TiB2 composite improved when increasing the portion of TiB2 phase only up to the value of29.7 vol.% when it reached the average value of 29.8 GPa.

Adiponectin is an adipocyte-derived plasma protein with insulin-sensitizing and anti-inflammatory properties and is suggested to be a biomarker of metabolic disturbances. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) on plasma adiponectin and some metabolic risk factors in patients with schizophrenia. The plasma adipokine levels (adiponectin and leptin), routine biochemical and anthropometric parameters, markers of oxidative stress, and the serum phospholipid fatty acid profile in eighteen schizophrenic patients at baseline, in the middle, and at the end of a 3-month long supplementation period with ALA (500 mg daily) were determined. A significant increase in the plasma adiponectin concentrations, as well as a decrease in fasting glucose and aspartate aminotransferase activity (AST), was found. Baseline AST activity was independently correlated with the adiponectin concentrations. Our data show that ALA can improve plasma adiponectin levels and may play a potential role in the treatment of metabolic risk factor in patients with schizophrenia. Future randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these preliminary investigations.

Aims: The pangenotypic combination of sofosbuvir (SOF) /velpatasvir (VEL)/voxilaprevir(VOX), inhibit distinct HCV targets, the NS5B polymerase, the NS5A protein, and NS3/4A protease, respectively. In Phase 3 studies, SOF/VEL/VOX administered for 12weeks demonstrated a 96% SVR12 rate in NS5A inhibitor-experienced patients in POLARIS-1, and a 97% SVR12 rate in DAA-experienced patient who had not previously received an NS5A inhibitor in POLARIS-4. Here, we evaluate the effect of baseline resistance associated substitutions (RASs) on treatment outcome and the emergence of RASs in patients who experienced virologic failure. Methods: NS3, NS5A, and NS5B deep sequencing was performed at baseline for all patients and at the time of virologic failure. NS3 and NS5A class RASs as well as VOX or VEL-specific RASs that confer >2.5-fold changes in EC50 were evaluated. Results: In POLARIS-1, 79% of NS5A inhibitor-experienced patients (205/260) had baseline NS3 and/or NS5A class RASs. Of these, 75% (196/260) had baseline NS5A RASs, the most common RASs. The SVR12 rates were similar in subjects with or without NS3 and/or NS5A class RASs, and with or without VOX or VEL-specific RASs(Table 1). RASs at NS5A position Y93 were present in 25% of patients, of whom 63(95%) achieved SVR12; all patients with ≥2 NS5A RASs achieved SVR12 (n=77). 95%(18/19) of patients with NS5B nucleoside inhibitor(NI) RASs achieved SVR12; 2 patients had S282T at baseline and achieved SVR12. In POLARIS-4, the overall prevalence of baseline NS3 and/or NS5A class RASs was 47%(83/178) and all achieved SVR12. All patients with. Conclusions: Baseline RASs had no impact on response in DAA-experienced patients following treatment with SOF/VEL/VOX for 12 weeks. Viral relapse was not associated with emergence of viral resistance.
