전자책 활용에 영향을 미치는 요인 연구 = (A)study on usability evaluation factors for e-book user interface

The purpose of this study is to present a theoretical framework and practical methodology to extend the scope of Library and Information Science by incorporating the usability evaluation of e-book, which has considerably increased in proportion in the digital library. The usability problem posed by technological advances is especially enormous for information searching on the web. End-users experience frustration when accessing e-books because they contains technological paradox. This has occurred due to technological advances in products. In order to create a more comfortable information using environment to end-users, it is the most important to reduce technological paradox.Evaluating the usability of e-books is researched as an approach to deal with this purpose. This involves improving usability of e-books so that it can serve as a more convenient access to new digital media such as e-books. Six essential factors for e-book usability evaluation were studied: user, goal, task, systemetical factors, subjective factors, and context in use.In order to recompose a set of suitable usability evaluation factors for e-book, it is recommended to research the difference between the factors of application software usability and in the factors of e-books. The purpose of a product is one of the key elements selecting usability evaluation factors. This study suggests a new set of factors for evaluating the e-book usability to make digital libraries more user-friendly and to increase the role of the information specialist. By surveying e-book users and through statistical analysis, it was found that rebuilding a set of usability evaluation factors for e-books is necessary to activate e-books in the digital libraries. The suggestions are as follows: First, the systemetical and subjective factors category have a positive relationship to each other. According to the correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis of independent and dependent variables, five factors have a correlated relationship to the dependent variables: systemetical factors (consistency, readability), subjective factors(usefulness, subjective satisfaction, and value added). It is suggested that these factors are a new set of e-book usability evaluation factors. Second, it was found that subjective factors are more effective to e-book users than systemetical factors. According to the correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis of independent and dependent variables, subjective factors have a much higher correlation coefficient than systemetical factors. In order to confirm the relationship between e-book usage and context in use, the ANOVA method was used. Context in use affects users'' attitude towards e-books. Personal reading habits by the amount of annual reading, internet usage, and hardware environment are especially affected by the preference of e-books.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 전자책의 이용성 평가를 문헌정보학의 차원에서 접근한 탐험적인 연구로 이용성 평가를 통하여 문헌정보학의 연구영역을 확장하여 나갈 필요가 있음을 밝히고, 이를 실현하기위한 이론적인 체계와 방법론을 제시하였다.전자책의 이용성 평가를 실행하기위하여 필요한 요소로 이용자, 목표, 과제, 시스템적 이용성 평가요소와 주관적 이용성 평가요소, 그리고 이용정황을 도출하였다. 설문조사를 통해 전자책 이용성 평가에 적합한 요소를 재구성하고, 각 평가요소들이 전자책 활성화에 미치는 영향을 검증하였는데, 그 결과는 다음과 같다.첫째, 시스템적 이용성 평가요소들과 주관적인 이용성 평가요소들 간에는 양의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 바탕으로 실시한 회귀분석에서 종속변수인 전자책 이용률과 선호도에 영향력을 미치는 요소들로는 일관성, 가독성(시스템적 이용성 평가요소), 유용성, 부가가치, 만족도 등 총 다섯 가지인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 이용자들의 전자책 이용에 시스템적 평가요소보다 주관적 평가요소가 더 중요한 요인으로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 통계분석결과, 종속변수인 전자책의 이용률과 전자책의 선호도에 중요하게 영향력을 행사하는 독립변수들로는 시스템적인 요소보다는 주관적인 요소가 더 많을 뿐 아니라, 더 높은 계수값을 나타낸다는 것을 확인하였다. 이용정황이 전자책 이용에 미치는 영향을 분석하기위해 실시한 분산분석에서는 독서량, 인터넷 이용행태, 하드웨어 장비(VDT) 등 세 가지 이용정황이 전자책 이용에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.-v -셋째, 전자책은 기존의 소프트웨어 이용성 평가요소들을 일괄 적용하는 것 보다 전자책에 적합한 이용성 평가요소로 재구성해야 할 필요가 있음을 확인하였다. 즉, 획일적인 구분에 의한 평가요소 적용은 다양한 디지털 정보매체의 이용성을 평가하는 데 한계가 있다는 것을 의미한다. 이 연구에서는 일반적인 이용성 평가에서 중요하다고 인정되는 요소들인 유용성, 일관성, 만족도 등 세 개의 평가요소 외에 열람가능성이라는 전자책의 특성을 나타낼 수 있는 요소를 추출하였다. 이로써 매체의 특성에 따라 이용성 평가요소들을 재구성 할 필요가 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 즉, 지식전달과 정보이용이라는 특성을 지닌 전자책의 이용성 평가를 위해서는 이에 적합한 이용성 평가요소들로 재구성하여야 한다는 것이다.이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 전자책의 이용성평가 모형을 구현하여 각 요소들 간의 유기적인 상호작용을 통한 전자책의 활용성 극대화에 이르는 과정을 나타내었다. 또한 전자책 이용성 평가를 위한 요소별 세부지침도 제시하였다. 이 모형에는 시스템적․주관적 평가요소들 간에는 유기적인 상관관계가 있다는 것을 표현하였으며, 시스템적 평가요소보다는 주관적인 평가요소가 전자책의 활성화에 미치는 영향이 더 크다는 것을 알 수 있다. 전자책의 이용성 평가요소 도출은 디지털 도서관을 중심으로 늘어나고 있는 디지털 정보이용 환경에 대한 적극적인 평가를 통한 이상적인 정보조사제공 역할을 위한 것이며, 정보기술의 기능적 적용에 머물러 있었던 정보전문가들의 전문영역과 그 역할을 확장해 나갈 수 있는 논리적 근거와 지침을 제시했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
