박화성 초기 단편소설 연구 = (The) Study of the early Hwa Sung Park's short novels

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 1925년 등단하여 1980년대 중반까지 창작활동을 한 박화성의 작품 중 해방 전 초기 단편소설들이 계급의식과 여성의식의 형상화라는 공통점이 있다는 것과 여성 인물들이 작품의 완성도를 높였다는 점을 규명하고자 하는 데 그 목적이 있다.
박화성은 처녀작 「추석전야」부터 민족의 암울한 현실에 대해 고민한 작품을 썼는데, 이러한 사회의식은 일본 유학 시절 독서회 등을 통하여 사상적 기반을 완성하게 되고, 이후 '계급성'에 기초한 경향소설로 이어지게 된다. 1930년대에 발표된 작품들이 한결같이 도시 노동자의 삶이나 궁핍한 농어촌의 모습, 가난한 여성의 상품화 등 계급, 민족모순을 담고 있는 것은 이 때문이다.
일제의 식민지 정책에 의해 빈부의 격차가 심해지고 민중들은 더욱 살기 힘든 세상이 되는데, 이것은 도·농 어디에서나 일어난 현상이다. 박화성은 각성된 지식인 전위로 하여 현실을 극복할 수 있는 전망을 제시하기도 하며, 궁핍한 현실의 모습을 열정적으로 묘사하기도 한다.
박화성의 작품에 등장하는 지식인 여성이나 하층민 여성들은 현실인식의 거울이 되며, 여성의 현실에 대한 그리고 작가가 여성이기 때문에 볼 수 있는 세밀한 묘사 등은 사실성을 높여 작품의 완성도에 기여한다고 볼 수 있다. 특히 「하수도 공사」는 계급성에 기초하여 노동자의 투쟁을 다룬 것이면서도 용희와의 사랑 이야기(여성성)가 작품의 도식성을 극복하게 하여 살아있는 인물로 하여금 식민지 현실을 인식하게 하는 수작이라고 할 수 있다. 「호박」역시 여성의 눈으로 이향(離鄕)의 문제를 다룬 것으로 소설적 재미와 함께 사회의 모순을 인식하게 한다.
이러한 여성의식은 박화성의 소설이 경향소설의 도식성을 극복하고 작품의 완성도를 높여 준 주요 요인이라고 할 수 있겠다.

The purpose of this study is to clear the fact that the early short novels of the works written by Hwa Sung Park, who had engaged in creative writing from 1925 to the middle of 1980s, have a common feature and female characters enhance the degree of completion about her works.
She wrote the works about the bitter reality of the Korean race from 「Chusok-jeonya(The night before mid-actumn festival)」 which is his maiden work. His social consciousness like this became accomplishing the ideologic bedrock through a group of socialism such as 'Book club' when he studied abroad in Japan, and ,henceforth, was connected by the agitative novel based on class consciousness. For this reason, her works published in 1930s constantly contains the contradiction of a nation and class such as the life of urban laborers, the picture of poor farming and fishing villages, and the commercialization of poor women.
Throughout the country, the distinction between the rich and the poor is deepened and the life of the people is growing poorer by the Japanese colonial policy. Hwa Sung Park, the vanguard of the enlightened intellects, not only suggests the prospect which is able to overcome reality but enthusiastically describes the image of indigent reality.

Her works has the female characters who are the intellects and belong to the lower class. That characters hold the mirror up to reality and both the description about the women's life and the detailed depiction revealed because the author is a woman can be thought to contribute to the degree of completion of works by raising reality. Especially, 「Hasudo- gongsa(Drainage works)」not only treats the struggle of workers based on class consciousness but also make living characters recognize the colonial reality through the love story - female attributes -with Yong Hui which is able to overcome the mannerism of works. 「Hasudo- gongsa」should be regarded as the excellent work by that point of view. 「Hobak(Pumpkin)」also treats the problems of leaving the home town through the female point of view and make readers recognize the social contradiction and feel fictional fun.
Consequently, The female consciousness like this should be a vital factor to be able to overcome the mannerism of the agitative novel and to raise the degree of completion of works
