초등학교 교사의 교직에 대한 인식 분석 = Analyses of Elementary School Teachers' Awareness of the Teaching Profession

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 초등학교 교사들의 교직에 대한 인식도를 조사·분석하여 교직에 대한 바람직한 인식 형성 방안을 모색하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이 목적을 달성하기 위해 구체적인 연구 문제를 설정하여 교사들의 성별, 연령별, 경력별, 학력별로 탐색하였다.
첫째, 교직의 전문성에 대한 인식은 어떠한가?
둘째, 교직 수행에 대한 인식은 어떠한가?
셋째, 직업으로서의 교직에 대한 인식은 어떠한가?
넷째, 사회·경제적 지위에 대한 인식은 어떠한가?
다섯째, 교육 여건에 대한 인식은 어떠한가?
본 연구는 설문지를 이용한 조사 방법을 택하였다. 설문지는 선행 연구 및 문헌연구를 바탕으로 내용을 수정·보완하고, 지도교수의 지도를 받아 최종적으로 30문항을 확정하였다. 설문지는 크게 5개 영역(전문성, 교직수행, 직업으로서의 교직, 사회·경제적 지위, 교육여건)으로 구성하였으며 설문 조사는 인천 지역 초등학교에 재직중인 교사 350명을 조사 대상으로 실시하였다.
본 연구를 수행하는데 있어서 자료는 SPSS/Win 10.0을 이용하여 처리·분석하였고, 유의수준은 *p< .05, **p< .01, ***p< .001로 나타내었다.
이상의 과정을 통하여 얻은 연구 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 교직의 전문성에 대한 인식은, 교사들의 대부분이 전문직이라는 인식이 매우 높았으며, 여교사보다 남교사가, 대학 졸업자(사범)보다 대학원 졸업자가 더 높은 긍정적인 반응을 나타내었다. 이것으로 보아 남교사와 고학력일수록 교직의 전문성에 대한 자부심이 높았다. 교사들은 전문성 신장을 위해서는 유급 연수 휴직의 기회를 주어야 한다고 희망하였으며, 초등학교 교사는 초등교육을 전공한 교육대학 졸업생이어야 한다고 응답하였다.
둘째, 교직 수행에 대한 인식은, 교직 경력이 많고 연령이 높을수록, 학력이 높을수록, 그리고 여교사보다 남교사가 교직 수행에 적극성을 나타내었다. 교재 연구를 충실히 하며 꾸준히 전문 서적을 탐독하고, 매 학기마다 특색 있는 학급 경영 계획을 수립하고 실천하는 등 매우 바람직한 현상이 나타났다. 경력이 낮은 교사들은 학생 지도에 보람을 느끼며 오직 학생 지도에 최선을 다하고 있는 것을 자랑스럽게 여기고, 경력이 높은 교사들은 학교의 업무 처리를 교수 학습 활동과 함께 비중을 두고 처리하고 있음을 알 수 있다
셋째, 직업으로서의 교직에 대한 인식은, 남교사가 여교사보다, 저학력보다 고학력자가 긍정적으로 인식하였고, 교직은 신분이 보장되고 안정된 직업이라고 인식하고 있었으며, 교직은 보람을 느끼는 직업으로 다른 사람에게 권하고 싶다는 반응도 보여 교직에 대한 직업 의식이 점차 나아지고 있음을 알 수 있다. 연령이 많은 교사들은 자신의 개성을 살리고 신장시킬 수 있는 직업이며, 봉사 정신이 필요한 직업이라는 인식을 갖고 있었다.
그러나 교직은 근무 부담을 많이 받는 것으로 인지하고 있었으며 연령이 많은 교사의 경우에는 교직은 희생정신이 필요한 직업이라는 의식이 높게 나타났다.
넷째, 교사의 사회·경제적인 지위에 대한 인식은 남교사가 더 불만스러워 하고 있다고 나타났다. 여교사가 남교사보다 유의 수준 p<.01에서 약간 높게 나타나 긍정적인 면을 보여주었으나, 전체적인 인식은 낮은 편이며 경제적 지위나 보수에서 남교사가 더욱 불만족스럽다고 반응하였고, 여교사 집단은 비교적 만족도가 높았으며 남교사의 대부분이 복지·후생 제도에 대한 큰불만을 나타냈다.
다섯째, 교육 여건에 대한 인식 차이에서는 남교사와 고학력자가 부정적인 반응을 보였다. 과밀 학급으로 7차 교육과정의 수업 진행이 어렵다고 응답하였고, 과다한 잡무도 부정적인 인식으로 받아들여지고 있다. 그 외에도 직접 학생의 교육을 담당해야 할 교사가 학생 교육에 이용할 수 있는 시설이 부족하다는 문제와 인사 행정이 만족스럽지 못하다는 반응을 보였다.
결론적으로, 바람직한 교직관을 정립하기 위해서 교사의 지위와 신분에 걸 맞는 대우 및 보수 체계 확립과 복지·후생 제도를 확대·시행해야 할 것이며, 열악한 시설 확충, 급당 학생수 감축, 교과 전담제 실시, 잡무 경감책 등을 지속적으로 노력하여 개선하여야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to conduct a research and examine the awareness of teaching profession of elementary school teachers, and to seek a way to form a desirable awareness of the teaching profession. To achieve this goal, specific research issues were identified and a research on these issues was conducted to elementary school teachers. This paper identifies how their awareness differ by gender, age, career and educational level.
First, how are the teachers aware of professionality of teaching profession? Second, how are the aware of their performance in teaching profession?
Third, how are the teachers aware of teaching profession as a job?
Fourth, how are the teachers aware of their socio-economic status?
Fifth, how are the teachers aware of their job conditions?
This research was conducted based on a survey.
The content of questionnaire was first amended and supplemented based on the preceding studies and literature. It was then finalized with an instruction of my professor. The questionnaire was composed of 30 questions and it was classified into 5 major categories which are namely, professionality, performance of teaching profession, teaching as job, social and economic status and educational condition. The survey was conducted to 350 elementary school teachers in Inchon.
The data processing for this research was processed and analyzed by SPSS/Win 10.0 and the significant level of this study is as shown below.

The research result from the above procedures was the following.
Fist, about the awareness of professionality of teaching profession, most teachers have a high awareness that the teaching profession is a professional occupation. Female teachers show more positive responses compared with male teachers, and teachers with Master show more positive responses compared withto teachers with Bachelor. The female teachers and teachers with higher education level are found to have more pride in the profession. To develope the professionality of teachers, they respond that a paid leave for training was necessary. They respond that the elementary school teacher should be a student graduated from universities of education who majored in elementary education.
Second, about the performance of teaching profession, more positive responses are received from the teachers with more career, teachers with higher educational level, and female teachers. A desirable phenomenon are found that the teachers are diligently studying the teaching material, constantly studying the professional literature, and establishing and carrying out a special class plan for each semester. the teachers with less career find challenges at teaching students and they feel the pride when they are doing their best to teach students. More experienced teacher are found to emphasize both teaching students and handling of work related to operation of school.
Third, about the teaching profession as a job, male teachers have more positive awareness and teachers with higher educational level have more positive awareness. The teacher recognize the teaching profession as a stable job. They find challenges at work and would recommend the same job to other people. These responses show that the awareness of teaching profession is constantly improving. More aged teachers respond that teaching is a job which one can use and develop one's individual characteristics. More aged teachers have high awareness that the teaching profession requires service spirit. However, the teachers have the awareness that workload of teaching profession is heavy. More aged teachers have high awareness that the teaching profession requires self sacrifice.
Fourth, about social and economic status, male teachers are found to be more unsatisfied. At the significant level of p<.01, the female teachers show relatively positive response compared with male teachers, but the overall response was negative. The male teachers respond more negatively about economic status and compensation level, compared with the female teachers. Most male teachers have high level of discontent about the welfare system.
Fifth, about the educational condition, male teachers and teachers with Master show more negative responses. The seventh curriculum is difficult to perform due to over-dense class. They also have negative responses about burdensome administrative work. Besides, the teachers respond that the educational facility for teachers is very limited and the personnel management is unsatisfactory.
In conclusion, to establish a desirable awareness of teaching profession, a compensation system and welfare system should be expanded so that the teacher receive treatments and compensation appropriate to their position and status. More effort should be made to improve the educational facility, to reduce the number of students per class, to enforce teachers' major system for each subject, and to reduce administrative work for teachers.
