The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationships among coo l and hot executive function(cool EF, hot EF), self-esteem and social ability for young children and to investigate the relative influence of self-esteem and social ability on the cool and hot executive function. To concentrate on the purpose of this study, the research questions were set as follows:
First, what is the relationship among children’s cool executive function, self-esteem and social ability?
Second, how would the relative influence of children’s self-esteem and social ability on cool executive function?
Third, what is the relationship among children’s hot executive function, self-esteem and social ability?
Fourth, how would the relative influence of children’s self-esteem and social ability on hot executive function?
In order to answer these research questions, the participants were 170 children aged five attending 3 kindergartens located in K province. This study used four instruments and the collected data were analyzed by Pearson correlation and Stepwise Multi-Regression through SPSS 18.0 program. To concentrate on the purpose of this study, the research questions were set as follows:
First, as a result of investigating the relationship among young children's cool EF, self-esteem, and social ability, there was a significant positive correlation in those two-paired variable that were the cool EF & self-esteem and the cool EF & social ability.
Second, as a result of analyzing the relative influence of children’s self-esteem and social ability on their cool EF, the entire self-esteem was revealed the most powerful positive predict variable, secondly, the entire social ability was found to be the positive predict variable. As a result of looking into the predictive power of the sub category of self-esteem and social ability on cool EF, cognitive self as one of the self-esteem’s sub-category was found to be the most positive predict variable predicting young children's cool EF. Next, peer relationship skill and family accepting self were revealed as a additional positive predict variables.
Third, as a result of investigating the relationship among young children's hot EF, self-esteem, and social ability, there was a significant positive correlation in those two-paired variable that were the hot EF & self-esteem and the hot EF & social ability.
Fourth, as a result of analyzing the relative influence of children’s self-esteem and social ability on their hot EF, the entire social ability was revealed the most powerful positive predict variable, secondly, the entire self-esteem was found to be the positive predict variable. As a result of looking into the predictive power of the sub-category of self-esteem and social ability on hot EF, emotional self as one of the self-esteem’s sub-category was found to be the most positive predict variable predicting young children's hot EF. Next, peer relationship skill, unaggressive handling, and physical self were revealed as a additional positive predict variables.
In conclusion, it was found that young children's cool & hot EF had a correlation to self-esteem and social ability. Also, in the case of cool EF, cognitive self and family accepting self as sub-category of self-esteem and peer relationship skill which was sub-category of social ability were influential positive predict variables effecting on cool EF. In the case of hot EF, emotional self and physical self as sub-category of self-esteem and peer relationship skill and unaggressive handling which were sub-category of social ability were influential positive predict variables effecting on hot EF.
