청소년의 외모만족도와 우울과의 관계에서 대인관계와 성의 조절효과 = Moderating Effects of Interpersonal Relationship and Gender on the Relationship Between Appearance Satisfaction and Depression of Adolescence

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 청소년의 외모만족도와 우울의 관계에서 대인관계가 조절효과를 보이는지 알아보고자 한다. 또한 외모만족도와 대인관계, 우울을 연구한 대부분의 논문들에서 성차에 따른 상이한 효과가 보고되었으므로, 외모만족도와 우울의 관계에 대한 대인관계의 조절효과가 성에 따라 달라지는지 살펴보고자 하였다.
본 연구는 서울시 북부와 경기도 북부에 위치한 중학교 3곳의 학생들을 대상으로 실시하였다. 558명의 자료 중 응답이 누락되거나 성실하게 응답하지 않은 24부를 제외하여 534명의 자료를 최종 분석하였다. 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 변인들 간의 상관분석을 실시하였고, 외모만족도와 우울 간의 관계에서 대인관계의 조절효과를 알아보기 위해 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 또한 외모만족도와 우울의 관계에서 대인관계의 조절효과가 성에 따라 달라지는지 알아보기 위해 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다.

본 연구에서 나타난 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 외모만족도와 우울, 대인관계 간의 관계를 알아본 결과, 각 변인들은 서로 유의미한 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
둘째, 외모만족도와 우울 간의 관계에 있어서 대인관계가 조절효과를 보이는지 알아본 결과, 우울에 대하여 외모만족도와 대인관계의 상호작용효과가 유의미한 것으로 나타났다.
셋째, 외모만족도와 우울 간의 관계에 있어서 대인관계가 조절효과가 성에 따라서 다른지 알아본 결과, 성의 상호작용 효과는 유의미한 것으로 나타나지 않았다. 외모만족도와 대인관계, 우울을 연구한 논문들에서 성차가 보고되었으므로 성별에 따라서 외모만족도와 우울의 관계를 조절하는 양상이 다를 것이라고 예상하였으나 성에 따른 상호작용 효과는 나타나지 않았다. 이를 통해 외모만족도와 우울 간의 관계에서 남녀 집단에 상관없이 두 집단 모두에서 대인관계의 조절효과가 유사함을 알 수 있다.
본 연구를 통하여 청소년의 외모만족도와 우울 간의 관계에서 대인관계가 조절효과를 가진다는 것이 검증되었다. 이는 청소년을 다루는 교사나 상담사 등은 외모만족도와 우울 간의 관계를 완충시키기 위해 청소년의 대인관계에 유의할 필요가 있다는 것을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to identify the moderating effect of interpersonal relationship on the relationship between appearance satisfaction and depression. This study focuses on gender variable as a moderator in the relationship. Based on previous literature that investigated the relationship among appearance satisfaction, interpersonal relationship and depression. This study is to investigate whether moderating effect of interpersonal relationship on the relationship appearance satisfaction and depression is differ from gender.

The subjects for this study were 534 students from three middle schools located in Seoul northern district and Gyeonggi northern district. Out of 558 data, 24 data that were missing or responded insincerity were excluded. Finally, 534 data were analyzed for this study. Based on data collected, this study analyzed correlation among variables. To investigate the moderating effect of interpersonal relationship on the relationship between appearance satisfaction and depression, this study analyzed hierarchical regression analysis. Also to investigate whether moderating effect of interpersonal relationship on the relationship appearance satisfaction and depression is differ from gender, this study analyzed hierarchical regression analysis.

The results of this study is summarized as follows.
First, this study investigated relationship of appearance satisfaction, depression and interpersonal relationship. As the result, each variable had a significant correlation.
Second, this study investigated whether moderating effect of interpersonal relationship on the relationship between appearance satisfaction and depression. As the result, interaction effect of appearance satisfaction and interpersonal relationship for a depression was significant.
Third, this study investigated whether moderating effect of interpersonal relationship is differ from gender on between appearance satisfaction and depression. As the result, interaction effect of gender was statistically nonsignificant.
Since most research on appearance satisfaction, interpersonal relationship and depression have reported gender difference, this study expected that gender moderates relationship between appearance satisfaction and depression differently. However, moderating effect of gender did not find out, because moderating effect of interpersonal relationship on relationship between appearance satisfaction and depression was similar both boys and girls regardless of gender.

This study concluded that interpersonal relationship moderated relationship between appearance satisfaction and depression of adolescence. That is, teacher and counselor should pay attention to interpersonal relationship in oder to buffer relationship between appearance satisfaction and depression of adolescence.
