The Necessity of Early English Education and Effective Teaching Methods: A Comparative Analysis of Early Education in Foreign Countries.

The purpose of this thesis is to discover an effective teaching method and technique for early English education.
This thesis is composed of four chapters: The first chapter expounds the aim and direction on what early English education and effective teaching methods should be like. The backdrop and previous research of early English education are also dealt with in Chapter 2, and, a comparative approach to early education in Korea and other countries is made in Chapter 3. Along with the gist of some teaching methods such as Total Physical Response(TPR), Audiolingual Method, Natural Approach(NA), Whole Language Approach, and Communicative Language Teaching, some useful teaching methods and techniques using songs, games, plays, music projects and Internet are provided and concluded in Chapter 4.
To write this paper, I conducted an opinion survey by questionnaire of some children studying at private language institutes, whose main contents are as follows:
It is revealed that younger students have been learning English for up to 1 year and their parents are interested in English teaching and learning, and that, when studying English, the students like singing songs and playing games, as a tool to whet their curiosity to further study English.
I suggest that, when they apply these methods to their classes, teachers should take into consideration students’ need, interest, and the degree of their proficiency. In conclusion, to put into practice an effective method for early English education, teachers must constantly train themselves and use a combination of different approaches to discover which methods work best for their classes.
