경험을 통한 사진이미지 표현연구 : 반복 및 중첩표현 중심으로 = (A) study on empirical expression of photo image : focus on methods of repetition and overlapping

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대사회에서 예술은 사회구성원들의 개인적인 삶과 점점 더 긴밀한 관계를 맺어가고 있다. 현대를 살아가고 있는 작가들은 예술을 통해 자신만의 독창성을 표현함으로써 스스로의 정체성을 찾고자 하는 욕망을 갖고 있다. 이러한 예술 표현을 통해 일반인들과 예술가는 공통적으로 물질적이고 정신적인 것들이 혼재된 채 획일화 되어 가는 현재의 삶 속에서 자신만의 본질을 찾으려 하며, 특히 예술가의 경우 예술 행위 자체로 사회에 대한 발언권을 얻고 동시에 사회로부터 새로운 예술적 표현의 의무를 요구받기도 한다.
공시적 관점에서 예술적 개성은, 같은 시대와 공간 속에 살고 있음에도 불구하고 각자가 경험할 수 있는 저마다의 영역 속에서 바라보는 ‘세계’는 다른 모습을 띠기 마련이며 이에 대한 예술적 현현(顯現) 또한 ‘차이’를 갖게 된다는 점에서 발생한다. 요컨대 획일화된 현대사회 속에서도 예술의 다양성이 존재할 수 있는 것은, 과거와는 달리 일반인과 예술가가 구분 없이 예술적 표현에 적극 가담함으로써 표현의 다양성을 확보하는데 용이하기도 했지만, 이에 앞서 이 모든 걸 가능하게 하는 것은 예술이 근본적으로 창작자의 개별적 체험에 대한 정신적 소산물이라는 특징 때문이다.
예술가의 ‘관념’ 또한 삶의 ‘체험’을 통해 형성될 수밖에 없는 것이며, 타고난 예술 표현적 재능과 기교는 예술 표현에 있어서 더 이상 주요한 요인이라고 할 수 없다. 예술 표현에 있어 주관적이든 객관적이든 현실적 ‘체험’만이 중요한 발상의 밑거름이 되며, 그것은 예술가의 내면을 형성하는 동시에 그 내면세계를 되비춰 주는 거울의 역할을 다 할 것이다.
이러한 예술의 기본적인 특성에 주목하면서, 본인에게 있어서 ‘체험’으로써의 ‘여정’이 갖는 의미와 그 속에서 자아를 발견하고 인식하며 나아가 어떠한 과정을 거쳐 예술의 표현으로 발전하는지 알아보고자 한다.
주요 방법론으로는 본인의 작품에 주요 수단이 되는 사실적인 매체인 사진 이미지를 이용하여 ‘여정’의 이미지를 더욱 사실적으로 묘사하고자 하였다. 본인에 의해서 부여된 의미가 어떻게 이해되고 해석 될 수 있는가에 대해서는 ‘반복과 중첩’을 이용한 구성 방법으로 실험해 봄으로써, 궁극적으로는 예술적 매체의 가능성을 고찰해 보고자 한다.
작품의 형성 배경으로, 여행을 통한 ‘체험’으로써의 감정 표출과 ‘여정’의 이미지를 통한 내면의 배경을 설명하였고, 작품의 표현 전개에 있어서는 ‘반복과 중첩’ 이미지 효과를 사진을 통해 나타냄 봄으로써 자아의 기억이 완성되어 가는 모습을 표현해 보고자 하였다. 이러한 이미지들은 새로운 기억과 지나간 추억을 작품으로 표현함으로써 예술가 본인에게 또 다른 예술적 체험이 가능하도록 만들어 준다.
본 논문은 ‘체험’과 그 체험의 ‘반복과 중첩’ 효과를 통해 새로운 예술적 표현 가능성을 경험해 봄으로써 좀 더 다채로운 삶을, 작품을 통해 표현해 보고자 하는 본인의 바람에 의한 결과물이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In a contemporary society, art forms increasingly more intimate relationship with members of a society in the realm of their personal life. Peoplehave desire to express their uniqueness in artistic forms for exploring their identity. Through artistic expression, people, whether they are artists or not, endeavor to seek their essence in a standardized society where materialistic and spiritual elements mingle in a chaotic manner. Especially artists let their voice heard in the society in form of artwork, and a society asks them to design new forms of artistic expression.
As for the artistic originality, it is generated from the point that even though people reside in the same time dimension and occupy same geographical space, they form varying perspectives on the 'world'from their own experiences, and accordingly show 'difference' in artistic representation of the world. Artistic diversity could be maintained even in the uniformed trends of a contemporary society partly because ordinary people, not only artists, participate actively in displaying their artistic interests and ideas, and more fundamentally, the reason is because art is essentially a spiritual outcome of an creator's personal experiences.
An artist's notions are inevitably founded upon the artist's life 'experiences.' Innate artistic talent or skills are no more central elements in artistic expression. Whether subjective or objective, a realistic 'experience' is now an important source of artistic inspiration; it forms inner world of an artist, and in turn, works as a mirror to reflect the inner world.
Noting these basic properties of art, this research examines the meaning of 'journey' asan artist's personal 'experience,' and how it helps to discover and acknowledge one's identity, developing it into artistic expression.
As for methodology, photo images―which is realistic media―are used to describe more realistically the images of a 'journey.' It is examined how the realities of the world through photo images conflict with the realities artist intends to express. An experiment is performed, using method of 'repetition and overlapping' in order to examine how the artist's intended meaning can be interpreted and understood. Eventually, the research explores potential of photo as an artistic media.
The objective of the study is to examine figurative expression of fabrics through 'repetition and overlapping' methods based on images of an 'empirical journey.'
To explain background of artwork, emotional display in 'experience' of a journey and inner landscape of journey images are described. Tthrough enhanced photo images, 'repetition and overlapping' methods were used to show how self-memory is formed and completed. By blending new and old memories, the images let the artist be encountered with a new artistic experience.
By exploring possibility of new artistic expression through 'personal experience' and effect of 'repetition and overlapping,' this research is expected to enrich artist's life with deeper, wider and more colorful hues.
