The purpose of this study is to analyze and establish factors affecting job satisfaction of personal assistants for people with severe disabilities, to identify factors with which a staff in charge of presenting authorities enhance or decline job satisfaction of the personal assistants, and then to present measures to respond to social demands by inducing more continuous job activities and increasing service quality and efficiency.
For doing this, the author conducted a survey for 170 personal assistants who work for ten institutes located in Gwangju Metropolitan City and designated as assistant authorities for activities of people with severe disabilities supported by the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs. The results of the analysis are as follows.
First, emotional weariness as a burn-out factor affected the job satisfaction. As the degrees of experience of declining emotional weariness were lower, the job satisfaction was higher.
Second, as for factors of interpersonal relations, as relations with staff of exclusive charge and peer personal assistants were more favorable, the job satisfaction was higher. This result indicates that the assistants feel happy on their assistant service within amicable, friendly relations with staff of exclusive charge.
Third, factors relevant to authorities significantly affected the job satisfaction. This result indicates that the job satisfaction of the personal assistants was affected by policies of authorities having sufficient decision-making on the assistant services for people with severe disabilities, instructions on distribution and job of the personal assistants, and humanistic relations in instructions and supervision.
Based on the results of this study, the author suggest social-work measures to maximize the job satisfaction of personal assistants and to present more continuous and professional services as follows.
First, management of personal assistants is needed by the authorities in charge of assistance and support for people with severe disabilities.
Second, regular discussions and training are needed to improve interpersonal relations of personal assistants.
Third, it is needed to educate users and their family members of personal assistance services.
Fourth, it is need to make efforts for changes in social perception and intensification of personal assistants.

Sixth, it is required to establish systematic methods to realize case management for improving service quality.
